Battery Backup Troubleshooting

I've had my VorTech running since 12/2006
and the battery backup unit up since 5/2007

A few weeks ago I noticed that the battery no longer delivers power to the unit and the battery LED stays solid green when main power to the VorTech driver is cut.

Any idea what could be going on here? Are there some troubleshooting steps I can try?

Thanks in advance.

First step is to make sure it is fully charged. Then take a voltage measurement to see if you are getting 12 VDC. When you say green LED I hope you mean the driver LED as there is no LED on the battery.
If you do not find anything obvious send the battery to Icecap 9B South Gold Drive Hamilton NJ 08691. We will get the problem taken care of.

Ah sorry, I meant there's a solid green LED on the power unit to the battery (the LED on the Vortech driver is green until the power is cut then nothing ... not the usual blinking green indicating battery backup).

The battery is fully charged, but I don't have a way to take a voltage measurement.

Is there any chance this is a driver issue? Are there any other troubleshooting steps I could try? I'm not eager to ship the very-heavy battery back unless absolutely necessary.

It would not be a driver issue as it is working with full power applied. Since you have a green light on the charger to the battery it indicates the battery is fully charged. You may have a faulty battery cable but no way to know for sure since you can not take any measurements. If the cable is good then it would have to be a bad battery or internal wiring in the battery assembly. Send me a name and address and I can send you a different cable to try. If that does not fix it then you will have to send the battery in for service.
