Battery backup?

No, that is why you want to use them, they are completely sealed and the acid is in a gel. You need a small charger to keep it charged.

Thanks for your quick clarification, Roger! I need to get this setup before summer rolls around. We have rolling blackouts where I live.

How long can a 6201 last on this gel battery?

It depends how many amp hours the battery is, I would buy a 30Ah battery and I would expect it would run for at least a day, to get full power you will need a 24V battery or 2 12V connected in series.

You dont really need a gel battery. There is what is called an SLA battery. Sealed Lead Acid. This is what is used with UPS systems, motorized wheelchair/scooter, etc apps. For a charger, it should be a "float" charger so that it doesn't overcharge the battery.

This is the 35Ah SLA battery that I got:

Roger, when you get a chance, can you ask about the feed mode thing? It does this every time I test. Not a big deal, but it does seem odd.

Thanks for the link SJM.

What's the difference between the SLA and gel batteries?
Is it safe to assume that the higher the "xxAh" on the battery, the longer it will run my Tunzes?

The higher the amp/hour(AH) the longer the pump will run. It the case of rolling blackouts I would buy much higher than needed. You will need something more than a trickle or float charger also. You'll need to spend more money, on a better charger, due to the higher frequency of use.

Any updates on this? Tbone, did you get yours to work?

I'm looking at putting one of my 6055s on a battery backup. We don't have many blackouts, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

What would I need for say a 8 to 12 hr blackout?

1 - 6105.500
1 - trickle charger (any suggestions)
1 - battery (suggestions)

Hi Chris, I've been *lazy* and have not ordered my stuff yet. But I should with Summer around the corner! Thanks for the link, Bob!
