BB 10 months in

Detritus does not stand a chance. There are very few calm spots in his tank!

All the corals are robust (his Acropora nana is about 3 times as thick as mine). They have to grow that way to avoid being blown off the rock or snapped in 2. His corals stay polyped, clearly happy with the current.

The funny thing is Dave has a habit of putting the "ugly brown" corals that no body wants in the display because the fit the spot. Then after they color up and start growing, everyone accusing him of cherry picking!!

p.s. The volitan goes in the tank tonight. I bet he goes for the Rhomboids first!

Dave, are you happy with only use MH and not use any T5 or VHO's?

Very nice tank, I like it :) Looks like TOTM material to me also

What kind of acro is the in the middle of the pic, is the a Acropora parilis ? (the turquise/green/blue)

Yes.

What kind of acro is the in the middle of the pic, is (that) a Acropora parilis ?

It could be. It does look similar. I've not taken the time to sit down and really look to try and see if I could GUESS at what it is.
Having the names is not really important to me esp. knowing that most are probably wrong.

Parilisish or parilis like is enough for me.

Thanks for the compliment.

Just got back from Memphis and really enjoyed the tank (and managed to spend some money:)). Hate that I missed you, Dave. I enjoyed scoping it out. I sent a PM with a few questions on individual corals. There was one I'd never seen anything quite like (little green encrusting thing near the psamma just to left of center).

I actually heard a patron say, "I don't know why he doesn't put more fish in here." All I could do was laugh. He came in with his family to 'look' and then they left. Obviously has no clue...

That could have been sarcasm.

Are you talking about the coral above the redish Montipora and to the right of the Psammocora contigua?

I had certainly hoped it was sarcasm. Wasn't sure though...

As far my mystery coral, yes that is the one. As I got closer to it and looked it had different patterns and features than I have seen. Looked kinda like some sort of Monti, but I hadn't seen the lined features, etc., before.

It was a cool to see Jason is still there. Said something about being afraid to run because of the torture devices, or something along those lines. Saw the hooks, but no whips...lol

Sweet tank!!! I am really considering going the bb route.

Did you have any full tank pics?
What is your light cycle?

This is really great. Especially for the LR layout that complete hide the bottom glass. I have learned a lesson here!

12 hours from start to finish but all the lights are not on at the same time during the 12 hour period. Only two of the five MHs are on in this picture.

Not totally coverd. The back, the parts you can't see form the front ,is open.

I have to say that I don't like BB tanks however the way you did yours is amazing. I think if more BB'ers covered up their plastic bottoms with rubble and made it all rock it would be so much nicer.

Young or not, that blows away some of the TOTM's!

Dave
Amazing tank, seriously TOTM stuff.
I started one of my tanks a month earlier, 220G BB, and it does not look even half as nice.
I love the fish, and the set up.
About the set up, I understood that you cover most of the BB with rocks, only the rear part is BB, right??
Thanks for sharing.
