So, I guess there's no vacuuming this BB tank? Looks like you have enough current, that you probably don't need to.

No,I do vacuum out detritus when I do water changes.

Great tank.

I for one am very happy to see you running 3X's the tank volume of mine with only 2X the skimmer. You also have a ton of fish. I think this means that my g3 with Sedra 9000 pump will be more than enough for my 120 SPS with only a few fish.

A few quick questions that I hope you don't mind answering..

1. How do you like the ASM's ability to skim wet?

2. Do you have any MOD's on those skimmers (recirc or gate valve)

I was curious how you had skimmers set up in your tank.

3. Do you have them both in the same sump?

4. Did you "Cook" or clean the rocks in anyway?

I was also curious as to your PO4 level with that many fish..

5. Is it high?

Thanks in advance.

It does fine. I have the 4 skim wet with the 3 a bit drier.

I don't use the sponges and mod the return so it discharges under/at the water line.

I was curious how you had skimmers set up in your tank.

The 3 is in the main sump and the 4 is in a auxiliary/bypass sump.

4. Did you "Cook" or clean the rocks in anyway?

"Cooking rock" is a relatively new term. I've done something similar for a long time so yes I did in a manor of speaking.

I was also curious as to your PO4 level with that many fish..

Now this may be a shocker but I don't check. Have not checked PO4 or NO3 as matter of course for a long time. I check pH ,temp.,and spec. grav. daily. Ca, Mg,and ALK/KH weekly.
I don't use any media that is specifically designed to remove just PO4.
I run carbon (virgin bituminous coal based) that is changed weekly. I change 40 gallons a week. I also run Poly Filter one week out of every month. The only herbivores that I have placed in the aquarium are the large Mexican turbos, ceriths, nerites, stometellas, colonistas, and Erosaria annulus.

I only add B-Ionic two part Ca/Buffer additive and Tech-M (once).

What I do is not a admonition towards any methodology nor is it a recommendation of one,It's just what I do.

Dave, that was some great information about the pecking order in your tank. Observations like those can be very helpful for others.

I just wanted to mention that I really dig your sandbox for your wrasses. (no pun intended)

Beautiful setup.

I'll be by tomorrow to see it, Dave:). We should be coming through around 3-4ish, if we get out on time. Sending PM.

Beautiful display dave. Looks like the bottom is pretty well covered. With the bb methodology in mind, do you find it hard to keep all the detritus in an area were you can vacuum? Or do you have some buildup?

My tank is a BB ( a reverse BB kinda) because of a look I wanted and because I didn't want to worry about water flow patterns creating a sand storm.

I'm surprised how little detritus collects under the rock. It seems my flow patterns have it collecting in the open for the most part. I got lucky.

I can't say that I'm a proponent of the BB as of yet. My tank is way too young for me to have drawn any useful conclusions. However, I do see things about the systems "behavior" that shows a great deal of promise. But something to keep in mind when picking a methodology is what are you trying to accomplish. What do you want out of it. To say you want the best is not enough. Because what does that mean? I wanted a tank that looked like I cut the top off a section of a reef.No sand and no visible bottom. One that had a lot of active reef fish. One that would be able to handle the flow patterns I envisioned and the food load that the fish would require without too much of a compromise in water quality. Ease of serviceability for system components. Ease of making water changes. So I put something together that I hope is the best I could manage with those limitations but like the tank inhabitants I tolerate and adapt and I'm already envisioning my next one.

Great looking tank. Looks like TOTM material to me.

Thanks for the compliment ( and thanks to everyone else on the compliments as well.) Maybe the materials are present but IMO it is way too young to have that kind of honor.

A few more pics.
