BB 10 months in

Gosh Dog! just gosh dog, other than that I'm speechless.

Dave I have a lot of fish and feed them several times a day too. No coral food, just blender mush for the fish. But a lot.

Hey Dave, the mystery piece you sent awhile back has gone crarzy with growth. Thanks again for all the extra effort you have provided me and our reef club. Awesome tank.

This tank is only 10 months old? Wow!!!
Did you start this tank from scratch or did you move some of these larger colonies from previous mature reef tanks of yours?
Are any of these reefermadness colonies? Just curious as to if they hold their color.
Looks fantastic! Absolutely beautiful!

Most excellent Dave !

Keep up the great work , and that is great work .

Thanks for the information Dave. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m just trying to add some darker colors to this place :hmm4: . Keep up the great work and the bucket of sand idea was simple, but genius.

Thanks guys.

Just to clarify, I've nothing against "rare" corals. I just pick mine based on what I think fits the location I want to fill and what I like.

The corals started going in at the end of December 2004.

Charles, glad the corals and the auction worked out.

Some came from my 5.5 gallon sps tank, some came from a employees 30 gallon sps tank, some from friends, ORA, a buddy of mine with a station in the Marshalls, various wholesalers,....etc.
All small frags or small colonies.

You can see one of the Helfrichs head in one picture and can see one in this picture.

I didn't take any pictures with them in mind but they are doing fine.

48 fish is correct.
The tank would be called a 240 gal. With another 130 gallons in attached tanks/sumps.

They all get along fine except for the 49th fish. It was recycled by it's tank mates.

The number of fish is higher 'n I would have if I had the tank at home but as it is a display at my shop I decided to add a bunch of farty/darty reef fish because ,quite frankly, many/most of my customers couldn't give a rats patootie for sps corals so they need something to look at.

Dave, in your particular experience with these fish, would you say their behavior is more passive or assertive towards other similiar fish you house?

I am just curious as to their behavior in a tank with lots of competitors. Do they act passively, hide and generally take food quietly. Or - do they act assertive/bold in their behavior towards other fish or their particular territory? Do they even have a set territory? Do they simply ignore everything?

Well, the fairy wrasses sorted them selves out based on size and sex. The females and IP males are ignored. There was some chasing and nipping at first amongst some but that is over with( number 49 didn't make the cut.). The Bartletts anthias where fine except I missed that I had two males. So the subordinate male has a very limited territory that it is allowed in before the dominate one chases him back. The basslets and perchlet are ignored. The purple firefish is dominate over the regular firefish but this just means the purple gets to be where it wants to be and the other just goes some place else. They ignore the pair of Helfrichs. The possum wrasses had the longest period of chasing each other around but that has stopped with no harm to any. The Flasher wrasses acted similar to the fairy wrasses. The Princess anthias is subordinate to the Bartlett's. The Blue streak cleaner and the fang tooth blenny are left alone as are the coral gobies. There never was much of any problem and none at all now. I did add them in a specific order to help minimize any problems. Of all the fish I lost one Princess anthias. It ate but seemed to waste away. I had a fang tooth blenny jump out because I left the top open. And number 49 was killed because I thought that one more fairy might get lost in the crowd( though I knew I probably should have placed a female or IP male in instead of a TP male.) It didn't. The biggest challange is to keep them well feed as they are some active high energy fish.

Your tank IS an LE!

Lickable/edible?
:p

I do have some rare(in the hobby) fish.
I have some Cirrhilabrus balteatus .
Limited distribution. Rare in the hobby because of that and they are not that pretty. But I like 'em.

Dave, any recent pics of the helfrichis?

I tried today to get a picture of them together but they wouldn't oblige.
So here's a older pic until I can get 'em together.

The problem is they have taken to living behind the structure so they don't come to the front much anymore.
