BB sps tanks?

Thinking I'm gonna remove my sand bed today when I do a water change. I'm just sick of the sand looking so bad, and Ill be able to turn the mp40 all the way up.

Any pics or things you noticed with your bb sps tank?

I always had a sand bed but when I set my newest tank up I went commando and I think it's the best thing I did. Hated dealing with sand dunes and things getting buried.

I'm not knocking BB at all.... But the tank just doesn't look like a reef without a sand bed to me. Personal preference

I totally agree it doesn't look as good but I'm looking for the cleanliness. My sand bed gets gross, and I want to keep the water as clean as possible.

Lets see some pics guys c'mon.

I started with BB two months ago, when I decided to reset the reef and to go to a Sps tank. I also was bored of ciano in the sand...Now I am happy and by the moment I do not miss sand...

Figured id just pull it all now. Re-arranged my rocks so I figured all the sand was stirred up anyways. only had about an inch of sand.

nitrates went from 5 when i tested to 1 today. not sure if that's just a coincidence. the water that came out with the sand was rancid.

I went sand in my 75 SPS, took it out a short few months later.

Had sand in my 40 Fusion, then upgraded to my 56 gallon current SPS system and had sand as well.

I do like the look, though I'm moving in a week and I'll be taking the sand out of my tank completely. I loved the barebottom look, the lack of maintenance, and the easy to keep nutrients. I run ZEOvit and still have algae on my sand bed which is quite frustrating.

Hi guys, I'm new around reefcentral here but all my reef tanks have been BB since 1989 - this is my current 55gal. (a little salt streak down the middle there, hehe). Also I have no sump on this tank..first time I've done that, but there is no need for one really. Lights are 2 Kessil a360we's and I run an Aquaclear 110 and an Octopus 1000 skimmer. Aquaclear in NOT run as a biological filter, the rocks do that nicely ..so I clean the 110 out every week so its just used for mechanical filtering. Currently adding more fish, but gradually.

I love the scape

Hi there,
No build thread it's just 48 x 18 x 18
2 x 250 watt radiums the tank is inside but against a window so it gets afternoon light. I use all in 1 biopellets, acropower and redsea coral colors program. I like bare bottom you can flush the whole tank with the powerheads mix up good fed for the corals without sand settling on everything.
