Bday gift from the casino build...

Ive been in the hobby for about 1.5 years. i had a 30 gallon tank for just under a year. It was becoming somewhat of a reef but i made a lot of rookie mistakes along the way and it was difficult. Eventually my overflow lost its siphon and my auto top off was full....so my tank poured about 10 gallons of water on my bedroom floor, down the wall and into the dining room. Needless to say, when i got home from the casino that weekend i was told the tank had to go. Fast forward a little bit and i moved to the basement which was finished as an entertainment room. It needed some work. This is how it looked when we started.

<a href="http://s274.photobucket.com/albums/jj248/arctictwist/?action=view&current=room002.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj248/arctictwist/room002.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

And after a few walls, some clean up and some paint. I added a large closet and walled in the room so anyone can go into the rest of the basement without disturbing me. this is what it looks like now.

<a href="http://s274.photobucket.com/albums/jj248/arctictwist/?action=view&current=room013.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj248/arctictwist/room013.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s274.photobucket.com/albums/jj248/arctictwist/?action=view&current=room012.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj248/arctictwist/room012.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Now my original plan when i was staying up stairs was to make a an AIO tank and i paid someone to make an acrylic one for me. We set an end date to have the tank by. Now he was very patient with me in changing the design so that i could get it the same size but give it an external overflow when i moved to the basement. We had the design set before the acrylic actually came in. However, it took forever. The acrylic finally came and it didnt react well with the weld on. So he was going to try again, but had some obligations. Eventually he ran past the due date and it was going to be some time longer so i asked for a refund, more because it was alot of money and i had nothing to show for it...and felt it would be better going to my bills as i had lost the ability for OT at work. Fast forward more to now. Recently, i went to the casino for my bday.....The craps tables were...shall we say VERY GOOD TO ME! :smokin: I never had such a hot night. So this build was born. ITs a standard all glass 120 RR. This is where it will be going.

<a href="http://s274.photobucket.com/albums/jj248/arctictwist/?action=view&current=room010.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj248/arctictwist/room010.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

It will go right next to the Entertainment center that i hacked up. It will cover the post next to the closet a little bit and protrude farther into the room than the entertainment center.

Thats it for now. I actually have the tank on the stand in its place. I will get more pics up tomorrow. The stand is 40 inches High. I know more than usual, but im a tall guy, and i HATED having to hunch over to look into my 30 gal.

:rolleye1: you don't need an exit in every room, just one in the main basement..

Keep us posted! Can't wait to see more!

Is it going to be in wall? Or on a stand?

What happens if the tank breaks again, and he must evacuate quickly. He could drown...

If only I had a big enuf tank that could fill a 15 X 30 room full of water.....hold on......ok done dreaming. Yea I don't think ill have that much of an issue! Lol. But no the other tank didn't break, I lost the siphon on the over the back over flow....this tank is RR!

Lol. :)

What if he remembers to roll over? He'd be able to inhale again. Whew. Glad we anticipated that possible event. :D

U have esp marc? I was gonna send u a pm. I'm making a power center and taking some cues from yours and others I've seen. I wanted to ask u which pieces of equipment should be gfci protected? The whole thing will be afci protected as I will be installing two dedicated 20amp circuits for this.

No, I just timed it well. :D

I have two of the three DJ Power centers plugged into 20 amp GFCI breaker. The other one is plugged into a normal breaker, which runs my pumps. I didn't want to have a nuisance trip kill the circulation, but the lighting should be on GFCI in case I drop one in the tank leaning too hard one day. :eek2:

Those DJ centers can only handle 15 amps each, so I used two to divide the power usage and avoid tripping the tiny reset button on either one. This worked out well.

I'm still laughing at the idea that you might drown from a 120g rupturing.

Give me the dimensions of the room. We have to figure out how deep its gonna get to avoid your untimely death. ;)

haha, its roughly 14 x 28. BUT theres the rest of the basement around it. the water would make its way through the walls and under the door....the whole basement is roughly 40 x 25 plus another room thats about 20x10... so your looking at 1200 sq ft...roughly....my bed is 2 ft off the ground so the water would have to be about 3 ft high. your looking at 3600 cubic ft to fill before i have a problem.

Thats roughly 27000 gallons id need....to drown myself if i could sleep through water coming up around me. i think i did that right anyways...

40' x 25' x 3' would be 22,441.5584g to drown you good and dead.

You would need 187 120-gallon tanks in that area, filled to the top, and they would all have to simultaneously burst their seams, quietly so that you don't hear it coming. The water would rise swiftly yet silently, claiming you as its victim.

People would scratch their heads for years to come about how the silicone failed in 187 aquariums on the exact same night, in a simple home in Connecticut. They would talk about it in hushed tones, not daring to draw attention to themselves out of fear of bringing similar bad omens their way.
