be careful where you put that bleach!

So, I was playing around with decapsulating brine shrimp eggs. I took a little 12oz water bottle and made a mini 'hatchery' type device to keep the eggs stirred. Of course, all my air pumps and lines are in the fish utility room - also where my fry tank and rot buckets are. SO... like someone that's not too smart, I set the decapsulating container in there and hooked it up. I soaked the eggs for an hour and then added the bleach. After I decided they had turned enough color, I went to disconnect my airline and I accidentally spilled the container, bleach and all - splashing across my little work area and right into one of my rot buckets. oops!... lol. :headwally:

It could have been worse. It could have been BOTH buckets, and/or it could have been my fry tank that I have my one little nemo left from my first batch.

Lesson learned: "don't play with bleach around your delicate LIVE tanks and cultures"

I cleaned it out and started a new culture last night. It should hopefully be producing enough prior to next hatch night (probably Friday evening).

It makes my flesh creep!:eek2:
I use to perform the decap thing over the sump of my 28 tanks system. Will have extra care from now on.:worried:

Hey Luis!, didn't realize you were on RC. Reading YOUR post made ME cringe a little. I can't imagine something like that going wrong with 28 tanks and I'm assuming all your broodstock.

Thanks Clowns - It should be tonight!! :) I'm excited for a second shot with a TINY bit of experience behind me this time.

Why not just buy a small air pump & do it by a sink? You have to rinse it & you probably can't do that in your fish area.

I was just playing with it the first time. Figured I'd get it down, then 'optimize' my procedure later. Of course I've learned my lesson and will do it in the kitchen from now on.

Luckily I only have to do it every 19 days:cool:
And it feels good to know that you keep a bottle of thiosulphate close around!:fun2:
