You didn't grab it for your tank? That would be cool!

Just kidding are those the deadly ones?

I see this floating around in my native Florida all the time. There are giant migrations...you see none for months then suddenly there are hundreds out of no where. My dad had one of these wrap around his body while surfing and he went into shock. If there wasn't someone sacraficing their fingers to tear off the stinging colonies, he may not have lived. Yes just as an SPS coral, this fearsome "jelly" is actually thousands of animals sharing one structure, instead of a single animal. I don't worry about dieing form the sting, but I sure worry about it ruining my day.

One time a rather large wave was coming toward me, so did a pushup on my board to duck diver under a wave. A man-o-war was floating on the other side of the wave, and I launched through the curtian of nails face first. The swelling didn't go down for some time and I had to call it a day from the immense pain.

Ouch sounds painful:0(
The first pic shows how long its tenecals are. We were in the water the entire time did not see any out there only on the beach.

one of the worst parts is how their tentacles can still sting you even after they have detached from the main part of the jelly.

That sure looks like a man o war to me.

I was stung by jelly that brushed across my stomach while wading at a beach in Hawaii. Not only did it cause painful raised welts where the stingers got me, but I had a general system wide reaction. I felt sick and like I had received a gut punch that causes you to drop to your knees and stay bent over.

I chugged some benadryl and the nasty feeling passed after several hours.

I can only imagine how much worse being severely stung by a man o war would be, let alone any of the box jellies off Australia whose stings can be fatal.
