Beat Michigan Week!

The History: 1987 The "Headband Game"
On Monday before the 1987 game, Ohio State president Ed Jennings fired coach Earle Bruce, a successful coach who was devoted to his alma mater but had never been truly embraced by the Buckeyes faithful.

The untimely firing shifted sentiment to Bruce, and Jennings was vilified for the decision.
In Ann Arbor that Saturday, Bruce was standing on the sidelines when he turned to say something to an assistant and noticed out of the corner of his eye his players were all wearing headbands.
"œI was going to tell them to get those headbands off," Bruce recalled. "œWhen I looked at them, I saw that they said "˜EARLE' and then I thought I can't very well tell them to take them off."

The Buckeyes won 23-20 and after the game Bruce went to the Michigan locker room to say good-bye to his friend and peer, Schembechler.
Schembechler looked up and said, "œYou know how I don't like losing. But, somehow, today I don't mind."

Know Thy Enemy: Michigan's football helmet is surely one of the most instantly recognizable icons in college sports. The famous "winged" design dates from 1938 when Coach Herbert O. "Fritz" Crisler arrived from Princeton to begin a new era in Michigan football. Even as the design and composition of helmets evolved from stitched cowhide to high-tech, molded plastic, the winged design has remained the pre-eminent symbol of Michigan football. Other Michigan athletic teams have adopted the winged design for their own headgear as well.

Michigan Joke of the Day!
Did you hear about the fire in University of Michigan's football dorm that destroyed 20 books?
The real tragedy was that 15 hadn't been colored yet.

Only 1 day, 23 hours, 421minutes, and 30 seconds until the Big Game!

So I ask, fellow Buckeyes, what have YOU done, to beat the U of M today?

Ok so my game time situation has turned much worse: The host couple was planing on us getting there at 2pm.
words alone can not capture my feelings right now

Not sure which is worse guys this new cough or the body aches or the chills. They all came on so suddenly. I am sure that by the time I am back from mountain biking tonight I just won't be fit to be around

Thanks Drs Norm and Kung.

The History: #1 vs. #2
On Saturday, we will witness the 106th edition of the greatest rivalry in all of sports. It will be the 90th-consecutive year that these two teams have met. It will also be the 45th time the two teams have met to decide the Big Ten Championship. Since 1951"”the year Woody Hayes was hired to be the Head Coach at Ohio State"”the Buckeyes hold the series advantage of 30-26-2.
On November 18, 2006, Ohio State and Michigan met for their annual showdown, each carrying an 11-0 record. For the first time the two rivals faced off while holding the top two spots in the Bowl Championship Series rankings. Ohio State won the game by a score of 42-39 and became the outright Big Ten champion, earning the right to play for a national championship at the BCS National Championship Game in Glendale, Arizona.

Troy Smith and his Ohio State teammates poured on all the offense they had, and Michigan stayed right on their heels. The No. 1 Buckeyes streaked into the national title game all right, with a dazzling 42-39 win over the Wolverines!

Michigan Joke of the Day!

Q. What is the only sign of intelligent life in Michigan?
A. The freeway sign that says "Columbus, 192 miles".

Only 19 hours, 38 minutes and 30 seconds until the Big Game!

So I ask, fellow Buckeyes, what have YOU done to beat the U of M today?

Dave,
You could always say you are going to a CORA Meeting to get out of it. :lmao:

You could avoid bashing shins and dressing like a Wolverine.

...Oh, sorry that was last weekend, never mind, carry on kicking em while they're down...

Go Bucks!

I would love to on multiple levels, enjoying the game in Columbus and with you guys but...

wife only tolerates so much fish geeking (Steven Pro's wife's term to my wife) per month
I went to both Toledo and Cleveland on the same day two weeks ago and thus tapped that out

We are staying home for the game then going to their party. Maybe there will be a TV in the basement and a game on that I can sneak down to. Not that I am anti social but no matter how the game turns out I will want some decompression time

that those folks just won't get (still love them like brothers well not the wifes like brothers but still) LOL

With the Speilman family news in mine I am honestly going to watch more with a heavier heart and be a litlle more reflective of great games gone by than expecting one today

Maybe its better to be home alone (in game watching terms) than with a crowd of people indifferent to the real game and just there to slug brews and cheer.

I will keep the lap top close at hand most of the morning and half time
feel free to drop me a note
virtual game watching pals is much better than none!!

go Bucks

My family is coming over and we are watching the game at my house.
We are long standing Buckeye fans who enjoy watching the game more than drinking beers.

Only 2 hours and 51 minutes to go, wooohoo!
