Beaver's Crazy Reef

How have the fish settled? Any new photos for us?

Hello Owen!Fish have settled nicely!

Very active and eating like pigs so I am very happy. The algae in the sandbed seems to be going through another cycle so the tank doesn't look at its best atm but I am patient and as this is my last week working before holidays very very busy so more pictures when it clears a bit!

Thanx for checking

Overdue update time.

Hello everyone.I know I promised piccies but unfortunately this is not the case with this update. Mr Murphy knocked my door 3 times within August.

Beginning of the month I introduced a scopas tang and instantly all of my tangs got ick. I tried to fight with regular feeding and garlic till I had to leave for my vacation. It seemed that everything was doing better at the time.

The second headache that I got was the skimmer base I had made which cracked leaving the tank with no skimmer for sometime.

The third headache is that one of the tunzes stopped working. And sadly it was the one agitating the surface.

The outcome of no skimmer and no surface agitation is a severe cyano outbreak and losses of

Scopas
Court Jester Goby
Orange Spotted Goby x2
Purple Dottyback x1

I removed the skimmer base and the rock I had under it in the sump so now the skimmer sits in the bottom glass. I also removed some rock from another section of the sump as I had a lot of detritus

The three tangs now look fine. The powder blue has still some catching up to do.

I also cleaned and changed position of my power heads for better circulation and the tank looks better by the day as the cyano starts to back off but we have some ground to cover before it return back to the clean crisp look .Other than that I have a nitrate spike to deal with

Till then ....

By making changes and taking the appropriate actions you actually saved alot. So congrats and time will tell how soon you recover.

Thanx for the support man!

oh wow. this is very sad news, sorry to hear it. is everything running smoothly now?

The re-placement of the power-heads had a great impact on the flow of the tank and I think this really helped

Something that I forgot to mention is that with the removal of the skimmer base and the rock underneath I got micro-bubles in the display!

I managed to reduce the problem but now I need to find a way to eliminate it!

There is always a job for the next day with this hobby!:spin2:

Oyyyy....that's something I don't ever like to hear.. I just recently fought off an ich outbreak that killed half of my fish. I started making my own food with selcon, vita-chem, nori, and medicating it with Dr G's bacterial and parasitic remedies. Worked like a charm! I'm now starting to repopulate my reef. I also had a micro-bubble problem for a bit with my SRO XP-3000 in sump....I ended up putting a media bag on the return of the skimmer and it worked flawlessly. I gotta look at yours again to see if I have any suggestions for you.
Anyway, Get some pic's up brotha! We wanna see what your tank looks like now! lol
