been out for 9 months anything new

wow those are some nice corals , hope to be up and running for corals soon but man I don't know if I could do 1 inch frags ...

I am interested in seeing what these corals look like in person; I've been told that the corals don't currently look like the images that have been posted. These are wild corals as far as I know. I would not buy anything ever from the vendor; you can see that they photoshop their photos. I don't see what's so great about these corals. Have you even seen a photo of a sample frag after you spent your $300+/-?

Also notice how rad the brown pinky looks in the second photo of the purple rain.

Well Logzor is getting them....he should post pics and tell us what he thinks when they get there....it wont tell us about long term success but will let us know the condition upon arrival.

Who gave you this information?

All corals come in wild at some point. How long these have been held I do not know. I do know most of these came in as brown corals and they don't release them until they are colored up and health. This is the same vendor that produced the coveted Red Dragon Acropora. My point is that they are a very reputable vendor and they are to be trusted. This is not a divers den situation where fresh corals are sold immediately to consumers.

I honestly don't think any of these images are photoshopped. Perhaps they have regular color/contrast correction (which I do to all of my images) done to them. We can't tell with complete certainty that the coral in the bottom right of the 2nd picture is in fact the same one as in the first. Like I said, these corals all came in brown, so if it actually is, it might simply be an older image, before it colored up. Aside from that I don't see a single thing that sticks out as being photoshopped.

As far as not seeing what's so great about them, that's all person preference.

You are right to be skeptical, I have never seen acros like these. So yes there is some risk involved but I think it's well worth it.

Yep I've already paid!

I'll get pics right out of the bag if I can. Hopefully next week sometime?

The pinkie one in the first pic is to die for, yes in my subjective opinion that is "awesome". Will they hold up and keep color in the hobby?? But dang someone has to try, there wouldn't be too many corals in the hobby if no one jumped off the boat to see what was in the water. I'm pretty sure NO awesome corals have been selectively bred in a tank. There things aren't puppies or cattle. This hobby need some genetic engineering so we could actually have a red acro, sorry I don't buy that red planet or red dragon are actually red, shades of pink, nice shades of pink, but pink nonetheless.

Just obtained some more information. These corals have been in captivity for approximately 1 year. They are part of the private collection of this vendor.

The original red dragon colony posted by 250g is completely different then most of the ones I see sold in the US. As far as I know RR did not help distribute the so called RD to the US; even if they had it would have been illegal as far as I know.

We are getting way off topic here. But I have yet to see a wholesale or retail place hold onto a brown acro for a year to just see what it colors up to. 95% of the time wild corals come in beautiful; fade out and then if they adjust the new growth is colorful but not always the same as the wild growth and color. The pinky and purple rain photos are 100% wild corals and likely freshly imported as the growth resembles such.

I would like nothing more for you to prove my doubts wrong. I will happily grow out the pinky if it makes it as a hardy specimen.

They charged me around $65 for shipping to Cincinnati. The corals are being driven to Buffalo, NY with all the necessary permits then are shipped overnight from within the USA.

Did they say anything about guarantees? like live arrival 24 hours something anything? its quite a long way from canada->ny->westcoast

They will be driven from Toronto to Buffalo (approximately 2 hours) then shipped overnight from Buffalo. Typical 24h live arrival is guaranteed.

I've seen the Orange Passion in the vendors location and I got to say it looks just like the photo. as far as the other two they must have hidden this really well or I would have walked out with a frag of this as well.

As far as the RD is concern, I've seen this in a system, the owner have accidentally hit the coral and it broke in two they each one have it's own unique color, it's almost like if I didn't know better I would have to say they are two different corals.

Most if not all of those are in the store....not in a display. And he does sell them...so I don't know if I would technically call that a private collection. They are for fragging only unless you want to open your wallet real wide I imagine.

I have never read or heard them say how long they have have had these corals....I'm interested in that information as well because I like to know my frags have been healthy and growing in a captive system for quite some time.

I'm not implying I know anything more than you do but I do shop at RR and I didn't see or hear of most of these corals till about 3 or 4 months ago. I was told they are wild collected.

If I can save my pennies I plan on going back soon to take a look at some of these guys and if they have held the color and look healthy...I might try one or two.....don't know where I'm gonna put it though.

I heard from two separate sources that these have been captive for over a year, including RR themselves.

I know its an old thread, we are seeing these SPS on the market here in Canada and I would like to see what sort of successes people have had with these corals.
