Before it's too late...

If you're interested in running a low nutrient system I have heard of many have great success getting rid of their algae using NOPOX along with Reef Energy eventually. I have also heard of people lowering their nutrients with NOPOX long enough to kill off the HA and then weaning off of it, but the source of the excess nutrients still needs to be addressed.

NOPOX kinda scares me as i have heard the horror stories...but every avenue is worth exploring

I'm curious what u heard about feeding dry food as opposed to frozen, and why u stopped the dry and/or flake feedings... And do u rinse ur frozen, and how often do u feed frozen?

I stopped because I was advised it may be contributing to the problem. I do rinse my frozen food...and before I stopped the flake, the frozen was fed about every 3 days. I usually fed the tank every other day.

Sorry if I missed it...

And to add on the skimmer subject, I use a reef octopus dual extreme 300, rated for 300g's, on my 90g water volume... I really don't think your skimmer is the issue... Jmo...

I thought the same thing as i followed your tank and assumed it would be ok to get a larger rated skimmer...

i have never herd of overkill on a skimmer........ can never have to big of a skimmer, probably need to dial it in,increase the flow and check for nitrates.thats where i would start.need to find the root of the prob,or problems...good luck:)

i wuz running the same skimmer for my 90 as i am now for the 210. rated for 800+

Might just be something worth looking into. It isnt too hard to figure out how much to dose and every bad story I have personally heard was because it was dosed WAY wrong, or reef energy was never used and they starved their tanks of too many nutrients.

BK Mini 200 on a 90g = inefficient and all scumm collecting in the neck lol..... To me that's too much skimmer if it does not end up in the cup. But again just my experience.

i was battling hair and a bit of red slime but since i hooked up a tlf reactor running a phosphate remover slime is basically gone and hair falls out in clumps. i no i have extra food when i feed the seahorses .

You will still need to figure out what is causing the problem but if your problem is hair algae and cyano algae you could get a bunch of emerald crabs and/or a sea hare. They are a very good clean up crew for nuisance algae.

Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to start a road to recovery...
