Beginning of the End - Getting out

I have decided that I have no interest any longer in reefing. I am going to start to take down my tanks one at a time.

I am starting with my 180 and will start selling corals first and then the rock/sand tank and equipment.

I will have pictures of the corals I have left up tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks

Ray - I am out as well- other than the small office tank - it is very time consuming when you want to do other stuff and the kids are now more active. I enjoyed it with my sons, but they moved on- so I had to move on as well. Sorry to hear your leaving the hobby - you had some super set ups and helped me out a lot.

I am taking down the 180 for sure, it is just too much with my 120, 60 and 40. I may keep one of the smaller ones up, will decide as I go.

I just don't have the time or the patience any longer, and with summer coming up it will only get worse.

Well, my wife is trying to talk me out of taking down the 180 and just take down everything else l, got to think about this for a bit. I was kind of liking the idea of having nothing to maintain.

Hey Ray I think your wife may be on to something with just keeping the one tank. I have found just having one tank (in my case a 220g) to focus on was a lot easier than multiple tanks, sumps, frag tanks, etc. Maybe you could consider selling off most of your smaller items/setups and redoing just the 180g to make it more efficient and less of a hassle. I think sometimes people get so engulfed/enthused in the hobby that they lose focus on why they started keeping fish and corals in the first place. Your 180g has always been a tank I and many others here in Pittsburgh looked to emulate and it would be a shame for the community to lose such a knowledgeable and well respected member. Ultimately the decision is yours but maybe redoing the 180g and making it less stressful for you would bring back some of the feelings/enjoyment you had when you started the hobby in the first place.

+1 Ironwill.
Ray I remember when I was switching over to my 220 I had two tanks running for about a month and it was truly painful! I hated it. And you have more than two.
Once I got back down to one it was a walk in the park .

Yes- keep one tank- which ever is the best for what you enjoy and also is the least trouble to keep up. My office tank was set up with minimal maintenance in mind- so I actually enjoy it. I miss having the home tank- but reality is - what is it.

I am keeping the big tank. Will slowly start to move everything over to that tank over the next few weeks and will start selling off the equipment/rock/live stock that will not work in the 180.

raynist i am in desperate need of a small amount of liverock, i only have a 24x24x12. if you can spare some i would really appreciate it.
