Beginning on the 180

I've had a tank for the last 7 years or so and, like most of us, eventually decided to upgrade my 90 to a 180. It's been a long journey from ordering the tank, to building the stand, to actually filling it.

I've longed for TBS rock after seeing the amazing pictures and stories and have recommended them based on what I've seen here. So, I decided it was my turn! Like all purchased, I hemmed, hawed and finally pulled the trigger! I wanted the "package" but with only 90 lbs of rock as I already have a tank with some nice rock. Well, at the time, it seemed like nice rock....

So, I order it up and get an email fro Richard that simply stated: "OK on the way! You are going to have a colorful tank this afternoon!"

WHAT AN UNDERSTATEMENT. Here is one rock and a picture of the sponges that he included. Surpassed my wildest expectations!!! So many extras and such quality rock. Note that my tank never had an amonia spike despite twice a day testing and monitoring. He loaded it on a plane and several hours later it was in my truck and on my way home. I also love the sand when compared to the store bought live sand I used on the first tank.

I haven't been this excited about my tank in years. Loving it!

Thank you Richard - I'm so happy with this rock and live stock!

Nice job!

Nice job!

Looking great there....great job on setting up your tank.

Pretty amazing that it was only a week between starting....and finishing your 180.....real live rock and sand makes for a painless set up, especially in a big tank like yours. That much water volume makes for an ammonia free cycle.....usually...as you experienced.

And you failed to mention....the three hours you drove each way to the airport to pick up your Package....... that is true determination for the killer live rock!

Keep us posted

Bear, looking really good. Soooooooo how did you go about making the order, did you order the 90 lb package or the 180 lb package and subtract out 90 lb of rock? Since you already had 90 lb of rock did Richard send everything together in 1 shipment? Just asking, because I'm planning on doing what you did, on a smaller scale.

My thoughts are to order the 100 gal package and subtract out about 80 lbs of rock because of what I already have on hand, this will give me the proper amount of everything else included in the package. Any suggestions from your experience will be greatly appreciated.

Hey Jaxom - that's exactly what we worked out. Basically, the 180 package minus 90 lbs of rock. So, sand and creatures were enough for a 180.

Just let Richard know - he had me place the order to get it going then we handled the logistics through email. He was very accommodating.

Is that your vet? Is it a '69? Looks like a very nice ride! I have a '65 and a '80. Just getting mine out of winter storage next week. Nice thing about TX is you get to use yours all year round, unlike the fridgid northeast!
