I just picked this guy up from aquarium concepts. He has a white meral stop and white fleks on his head and antennules. He has yellow stripes on the end of each back segement as well as on the tims of his antennal scales, pereiopods, pleopods and the uropod and telson. I think its a male as there two black tubes infront of his first set of pereiopods. Heres some pictures....my camera isnt to good and I failed to get a shot of his meral spot.

Once Mitch was aclamated to his new home he quickly began to explore his surroundings. After a few minutes he found a rather large turbo snail. Hes still working on it as we speak...Unleash the fury Mitch! Hes taken chips off of the edge, but no critical damage yet...im trying to video it as well so expect a little treat soon!

I think it is a Gonodactylus chiragra male.

rudyistaken,
Gonodactylaceus ternatensis has orange meral spots and red inter-segmental lines.

Upon further inspection, I do believe Timmy called it...thanks Timmy!!

Got some videos of him clobberin the snail...but Im afraid that after almost 5 hours hes still workin on it...doh! Stubborn little guy though

Cool thanks Timmy.

Just because I am learning I may as well ask as I I actually have a male ternatensis and thought females lacked the red intersegmental lines sometimes, is this not true?

really? They have had the L. Maculata for quite a while as well, but I havent been there since the end of february...

Hes been workin at this snail for a while now... I think he finally got it about 20 minutes ago.

So today is Mitch's first day in his new home and he has yet to come out and play. Im a bit worried now that he wont be a very active mantis, which is what I wanted. He was quite active in the tank yesterday, hopefully hes just resting after finally destroying and eating the turbo...but his profile suggests that he is not an active animal....time will tell I suppose.

Anyone else have a G. Chiragra that would care to share their expierences with this particular species?

Perhaps he is hiding because of the ammount of light...I have 130 watts of light on a 30 gallon tank...is that to much for a G. Cgiragra?

yeah, Mitch was doin great last night posing for the camera...unfortuniately my videos came out a bit blury...do you think I have to much light on the tank? 130 watts on a 30 gal? Dunno if you saw that, i think i was editing the post as you were responding

So you have a 2x65 fixture over it i assume. I wouldnt think its too much, it may be the nature of the beast. Chucky was in a NC 6, and he still hardly came out.

Yup, 2x65 with lunar lights... Welp, Mitch is out and about exploring as i type this, so hopefully hell stay a bit more active. He headed to the top of the tank and went back down...im thinkin i should go get some egg crate and make a top for the tank...

hilarious!

hilarious!

C'mon, Mitch... don't you want to eat?? Come back tomorrow... the feeding is tomorrow.

I laughed out loud when I saw this thread. I too have a "Mitch" (actually 2, but no "under water Mitch"). I have a Tokay Gecko named Mitch that takes down tiny mice no problem and am "Mitch-sitting" for my buddy who has a Ball Python, also named Mitch. Bottom-line.. any pet that feeds on live food is named Mitch! heheh..

I hope to have an under water Mitch some day.. maybe a Angler or Mantis.. but one thing is for sure.. it's name will be MITCH!!

Don't mess with Mitch.. he'll rock your world!

:smokin:

hehe r

ight on, I always wanted a Tokay Gecko but my parents decided that a leopard gecko would be better.

Im glad someone else cought the reference....ive been talking to my co workers about Mitch unleashing the fury all over tom the turbo snail's face...only one person at work knew what I was talking about!
