my LFS got one of these in this past week and it has been doing GREAT in their system. He already has one in his display tank so he is considering selling off the other one. He is asking 149$ for it. Is that a lot? my tank currently is a 55G but looking to upgrade within a year or so. What do you guys think of these angels? Are they pretty Hardy? If anyone was interested in it or just wants to go stare at it like I do, it is at Exotic Aquatic off Oakland Pk here in Fort Lauderdale...AMAZING store...Great people...the Owner is Rob ask for him....Any imput on this fish would be great!

great personality, just make sure they are eating and without disease.
I had a pair and lost it to vibrio that came with it.

Its a Female. He has another female in his display tank which was why he was considering keeping it(hopeing the dominate one would change to a male). the fish looks great and was even eating froozen mysis.

I don't think they are sexually dimorphic. A 55g is way too small for it, what would you upgrade to? Also, its not a good price at all for the fish, I've seen them for as low as 60 and they usually go for 80-100. I'd just wait, personally, until you have the right tank for it. Putting it in a small tank could stress it out, then it gets sick and dies, and you are down a 150 dollars. Waiting means finding one for a better price, with a better home setup for it.

As far as being hardy, they are hit and miss. They are collected in deep water, often the Phillipeans. If it shows any signs of sores on it's sides or swims tail up I would pass on it. The yellow and white males for some reasons tend to do worse than the blue females. As for price, it it appears to be the perfect specimen and is eating well I would buy it - although it might be a tad high. Price will vary depending on where it was collected. In a 55 I think it would be okay if an upgrade is planned and it is the dominant fish.

If you buy only one fish it's likely it will eventually end up a male. From the photos I've seen, males look completely different & are somewhat drab looking compared to the females IMO. If it was me I'd therefore buy a pair.

Not sure how well they adapt to shallow reef lighting as they come from very deep water.
