Bellus Bully

Fish Warden
This is probably half of a rant and half a question but our Bellus angel has become an absolute bully in the tank. It a 180 and she chases every fish we have had and have added and is especially bad with wrasses. Is the the normal MO for them? Everything I have read is that they are peaceful but not this one. She has been in the tank about 3 years and at this point is probably the longest there which might explain a bit but we also have a tomini and hippo tang both of which have been in as long but don't even look at other fish.

Just a bit frustrating as she has run-off more than a few wrasses which is getting a bit expensive. We are currently attempting to trap her and pass her along to someone else.

Anyone else ever have issues with them or do I just have the demon-bellus?

I've had mine for four years coming up next week. Never had aggression problems and I have added a lot of wrasse and other fish since getting her. She will stand her ground but doesn't go out of the way to chase other fish. Sounds like you got a mean one. I always say that each fish is an individual and some just act different than others.

I currently have a pair of Bellus in my 180 mixed reef; and yes, both show dominance from time to time with the other fish. The will chase or rush the smaller angels in the tank, but nothing serious enough that I would consider moving them. Believe it or not, the male is actually more mellow than his female counterpart. Great fish though, very active.

i have a male bellus in my 300 with a lot of fish the most being wrasses & he only shows aggression towards my large scott's he will chase him around the tank but no serious damage

Used to have a Genicanthus Watanabei which happens to be in the same family as the Genicanthus Bellus that used to dominate the tank. I did try putting a Bellus pair in with her and the Bellus Female actually dominated her. The pair had to go. I took love to my Watanabei. Just as you mentioned though, my Watanabei was a total harasser specially of my wrasses as well. She was fine for a while and one day she just decided it was her tank. She was a sweetheart and did not harm the fish but she did give them a good run. Fortunately she went to a beautiful new mansion.
