bennerkla's 5.5 AGA Nano Reef Diary (Lots of PICS!!!)

The xenia is definately doing better, but I'm still worried about my zoos. They aren't really opening up, but they are juuuust peaking out. I hope time will tell. If they aren't open in a week I'll put them in my 75 and pray.

Hmmmm....good to hear about the xenia..sad to hear about the zoos. Sometime mine don't open for a while but come back out slowly sorta like yours.

PS. Lovin that green sinularia, wanna frag..lol..

The ph is a ViaAqua 80, it is really nice, completely quiet. Small as well.

I love those zooanthids, I'll be upset if they don't turn around.

No, the powerhead I was going to sell you was a ViaAqua 120. A bit upgraded, but still quiet and nice. Now that I think about it, I did get a PM from you but I never got around to replying to it. Sorry man.

Hey guys, what's up? Can't believe it's August 20th already.....

Anyway, I headed over to Aquarium Adventure today because they have a 50% off sale on all of their fish and coral. Sounds great!! Little did I realize that all of their fish originally cost 5 arms and 7 legs. $110 for a small/medium Flame Angel, $70 for a Neon Dottyback, $40 for a Cleaner Shrimp, $90 for a small frag of star polyps!!

So, ****ed off, I went over to Jack's Aquarium at Easton to hopefully find a better deal. I eyed a Purple Pseudochromis that I just had to have. My plan is to keep him in my 5.5 until he starts eating and feeling comfortable while growing. This might be a few months, then put him in my 75 with my larger fish.

I also picked up a nice looking feather duster from there as well. $30 for both of them, which is not too bad. Hope you guys like my new additions.

I found it rather comical that when I floated the bag to temp acclimate my fish, my nano overflowed. Sign of a small tank :P Also, the bag came into contact with almost all of my corals, so they all look kinda sluggish. I wish my zoas would open already!

My girlfriend left for college today :( :( :(

Cya guys,

Ben

Ben, if that fish is the same as the one I had, you may later decide to part with it. Mine was a horribly mean fish, chasing my Lemon Meringue Wrasse that was double its size. I finally banished it to my son's tank, and never saw it again. I think an eel ate it.

I'm sorry I seem to be so negative lately. It is merely coincidence in the choices you've made. I hope this little guy is the polar-opposite of the one I had.

Hey Ben! Looking good!

I read that that little guy can be pretty territorial to other fish of similar body shapes.

Feather duster looks great, and that brain seems to be doing very well!

Melev, what choices have I made that have colided with your previous experience?

Thanks jordan, hopefully I'll get over to phishy sometime soon.

I was referring to mushrooms and your new fish specifically. Maybe more, but I'm not going to go back and do the research. ;)

Of course I do. I just figure I should give you a heads up about some of this stuff before it causes issues for you down the road.

Well, I think I've changed my mind. One thing is certain: My cleaner shrimp is going to the 75 gallon. I'm tired of him crawling all over my corals and making them shrivel up. He isn't out as much as I'd like him to be, either. Also, I think he'll enjoy the extra room in the 75.

My Purple chromis might be moved to my 75 as well, because he isn't eating. I'm not too worried about him being aggresive, because I have good sized tangs and a big clownfish in that tank. Doesn't look like any of them.

The corals by themselves might be enough for me. I'll have to play with it and see if I like it or not. Maybe sexy shrimp will be better.

Any ideas, guys?

BTW the algae on my sand will not go away, the ceriths seem to have no interest in them. Anyone have any ideas? I have nassarius, ceriths, and astreas, none eat it.

I have a peppermint shrimp in mine I enjoy. He comes out during feeding but hides most of the time.

I was happy to see he molted successfully last week, first thing like that I've had happen in my tank.

Plus they are about $10 cheaper than cleaners.

Yes, my cleaner shrimp has already molted. My water perameters are crazy, everything is absolutally perfect. This is due to the ease of water changes with a 5.5 gallon system.

0 rates, rites, and ammonia

8.1 pH

78.9 degrees

420 calcium last I checked I believe...
