Best Amphipod eater to save my missing Zoos

I think I have narrowed down my missing and closed up Zoo problem....AMPHIPODS! They sure do scatter when I grab a frag. I have dipped lots of my frags in tap water and this is helping but I read on another thread that some wrass fish will eat them. How about some suggestions on the best ones! I have a 120 frag vat and dont want to loose any of my precious babies!!!

IMO sixline wrasses are the best amphipod predators... They can run, but they can not hide!!!!! lol But sixlines are aggressive... Most all wrasses will eat pods though... Perhaps if you have a few that you're interested in, we could help you narrow down your search... :D

I will be using them in my 120 gal frag vat and they will be in there with 2 blue Chromis. As this is my frag vat and not my show tank, I am more interested in eating power than beauty. It would be nice if they were not in the jumping family..... if that were possible. Thanks Randy for all your help!!

Most all wrasses are jumpers so keep that in mind... I'll say that I have a few in open top tanks... But not the pricey ones... lol If you're overly worried about it, a nice Pseudochromis might suit you well too... They're nice predators as well... Oh, and so are mandarins... But they'll deplete the pod population fast, and don't readily accept other food sources... Though I read in TFH that they'll eat fish eggs... If you're really wanting them, I can take another look at the article and post more info...

I had a Blue Dot Jawfish that hunted them intensly, until it jumped out of the tank.:( But for in the 2 week period I had him he pretty much desimated the amphipod population in a 40g tank.

$130 down the toilet:mad2:

yellow coris are cheap and good hunters and don't jump as often as flashers and fairy wrasses.

i have a splendid dotty back that hunts very well as ct_vol said.

Thanks everyone for all the help! I am off to my supplier tomorrow to get me some pod eaters! This is the greatest site ever!!!!!

I remember a while back when i said i thought my amphipods were eating my zoas..... ppl thought i was nuts, I was laughed at and the whole 9 yards.

I added a sixline and my zoos have never looked better, i was watching the amphipods munch zoos night after night and i was being told that they were eating up the dead corals. I never had any dead coral to begin with so that never really satisfied me.

Is it an accepted theroy that those lil suckers do eat our corals now?

I originally had pods all over my tank, even when the lights were on. I had no problem with them eating my zoas, but I did get a six-line and the pods only come out at night from now on.

View your zoo's at night with a RED LIGHT and you WILL notice large ampipods roughly up to 1cm in total length.. you will see them SWARMING your zoo's..

I have observed these bastards literally digging there claws inside the zoo's mouths and by next day.. skirts would be torn and some taken clearly off the rocks and mat.

6line , mandarin and flasher wrasse pretty much decimated them... I believe larger ampipods might also decimate your smaller pod species like copepods... because as I saw a large bloom in ampipods , I hardly saw copepods.. even before the addition of mandarin and flasher wrasse
