I AM PLANNING ON BUYING A CHILLER SOON HAS ANY ONE USED CURRENT USA PRIME TOWER CHILLERS OR PACIFIC COAST ?? THEY SEEM TO HAVE A GOOD PRICE FOR THE 1/3 HP ONE. I AM SKEPTICAL OF ANYTHING CURRENT USA MAKES. I AM PLANNING ON RUNNING IT ON A 130 GALLON SYSTEM WITH HALIDES?? DO NOT WANT TO WASTE MY MONEY ON A PIECE OF JUNK. PLEASE HELP

I just set up a 1/10th HP Pacific Coast Chiller for my 62 GL reef tank. The maual states when the temp rises 2 degrees above your tank temp setting chiller will turn on, mine takes a 3 degree variance. I called Pacific Coast and they said their experience as been closer to 3 degress not 2 like the maual indicates. I also had a defective temp probe which Pacific Coast sent a replacement immediately. Chiller is nice looking and quiet. I will see what the Valley heat will do this summer and let you know if I made the right decsion.

I used a JBJ Artica for a short time. It kept the tank temperature just fine but the additional heat it put in the room didn't work for me. I returned it and got 10 low voltage fans blowing over the water and out the cabinet and use air conditioning in the house. It was quiet though not silent.

our eco cooler works great. Even though we upgraded to a larger tank I don't relaly foresee it being a problem this coming summer (but time and temperature will tell).

Strange, I have totally opposite experience with this chiller. I have a 1/10th HP on my 100 + 30g sump and it keeps the tank down to where it needs to be and I can't even tell that it's running w/o looking @ the display. I also noticed no added heat to the room.

My vote is for the JBJ Artica

I have a 1/10 jbj arctica that recently had major problems with settings after a power outage.

They say it should reset to 77 degrees if the power goes out, mine set the chill to 50-some degrees. My tank was like 74-75 degrees when I got home! If it had done this on my vacation, it would have cooled my tank to death!

I called them but the guy just asked me a bunch of stupid questions then said he'd never seen that and he'd have to call me back... That was Tuesday!

I would not buy another at this point.

I have had a 1/10 JBJ Artica for going on 3 years now and am very happy with it. No problems whatsoever.

I always say you have to look at the units that DON'T work and see what happens with those. You never know what you're going to get, and when a company is unresponsive to problems with their products, that is not a company I want to chance my business with!

I also use a 1/10 jbj arctica on my 79G. I bought it due to last years heat wave and it works great. I set it to 79 and it kicks on at 80 and turns off at 78. I have it plugged to the Neptune DC8 for added protection to switch off the outlet if temps fall below 77.5. When I power the unit off it retains its temp setting. I got it last year from aquarium concepts for 399 new. That was cheaper than all the online vendors at the time. HTH.
