I have a 20g FOWLR tank (without fish yet) and I'm curious as to the best color temperature bulb to buy for the hood.
Right now (for the cycling), I used the bulb that came with the hood. It's 15w and kind of pinkish (similar to a grow light). The problem is it's great for growing algae (already started growing on the glass and rocks, and the tank has only had RO/DI water).
I'm looking to buy a replacement (same wattage and length), but in a different temp. My three options are...
50/50 combination of 6500K trichromatic daylight phosphor and actinic 420 phosphor
10,000K
pure 420nm actinic
I don't know which one would be best for reducing algae growth. I have no intention of adding coral/anemone to the tank.
Thanks for your opinions.
