best container for rodi?

Thanks for that link Chad. Right now I'm just using a 55g brute but definitely want to do something differently soon.

So I keep mine in the 32 gallon Brute with a lid. After awhile it starts to smell like a cat used it as a toilet, which I assume is Ammonia which we know is bad for our tanks. I will usually throw out any water in there as I am afraid to use it. However, when I test the water with an ammonia kit it is always negative yet the smell pervades? Do I need to keep the water circulating? I'll admit I usually just keep it covered but not circulating.
I have a 55 gallon food grade drum that seals water tight that does not have this issue. Any ideas? I get my RO/DI from the BRS 5 stage 75GPD my boss bought for the 200 gallon at work.

Your probably smelling byproducts of bacteria / mold - not ammonia. RODI is stripped of all of it's disinfectants - so bacteria and mold grow readily in those environments.

Did u already put salt in it or is it just Rodi?

I used to have this problem with the old water barrels I used and the brute trash cans. With my new sealed barrels I don't have any smell at all.

This is with the plain RO/DI, will circulating the water help? I keep the lid on but it is not exactly SEALED.

Once or twice a year I drain my RO/DI container and wipe it down with vinegar and let it air dry for a bit to kill anything living in the water.

I have not noticed an ammonia smell, but it does get a bit of a stale smell if I leave it long enough. I think it is moisture on the lid that gives a good air/water interface for bacteria and mold to grow on.

Wait where do I get free old water softeners??

The mixing station holds 60 Gallons, The RODI Storage (Its smaller) holds 40 Gallons

You can get them Free from any water softener store that does installs, They remove the old Water softener, and install the new one. And usually pile the old ones out back. These companies have to pay to get rid of them, so they are more than happy to give them to you for free.

The Mixing station is an All In One Water Softener. I like it as it has a flip up lid to pour in the salt:
I just pulled the brine tank out of it, and the rest of the crap, installed a heater, power head, and plumbing.

From a softener Like this:

The RODI Storage tank is from a Water softener where the Brine Tank is external from the Softened Water, Like this:

I have a build thread here: think the mixing stations start on page 2

Bonus is, 1: They are Free, 2: Your recycling, 3: They are small and compact, and don't look like trash cans.
