So I keep mine in the 32 gallon Brute with a lid. After awhile it starts to smell like a cat used it as a toilet, which I assume is Ammonia which we know is bad for our tanks. I will usually throw out any water in there as I am afraid to use it. However, when I test the water with an ammonia kit it is always negative yet the smell pervades? Do I need to keep the water circulating? I'll admit I usually just keep it covered but not circulating.
I have a 55 gallon food grade drum that seals water tight that does not have this issue. Any ideas? I get my RO/DI from the BRS 5 stage 75GPD my boss bought for the 200 gallon at work.
