Hello every on i am a new aquarium keeper and i just got my first fish (a tomato clown) im waiting for my tank go cycle but when is a good time to get one? what are the "easyst" to keep? i have a 55 gallon with a 4 t5 bulb set up and about 2250gph ( with power heads and filters) i have a kaloria 1 and 4 and then my skimmer and hang over filter. thanks for any advice given and i cant wait to properly join the club :]

Xenia are good, but keep in mind that they can and will take over a tank. Mushrooms can as well. Certain LPS are easier that some softies to keep. I've never had a problem wil fungia or acans.

xenia do spread. I have some and they need some control. A finger leather would be a lot easier to keep under control. I'd start with the soft corals like leathers, riccordia mushrooms and zoanthids since they like less than pristine water. Once you are stocked with your fish and have the nitrates under 5 ppm and phophates under 0.05 and algae under control, add lps like frogspawn or candy cane. By then you'll start to feel like a reefer. Good Luck :celeb3:

If I were you I wouldn't ever consider xenia as they can reproduce to plague proportions. Trust me I've been dealing with them for 3 yrs now.

i too would get ric's or yuma's you can get some realy good looking ones that will look good even when you have a fancy reef later on. many start out with ugly corals because they are cheap and after you have grown them for a year and spent all that time on them you basicaly give them away becouse they are so plane and you are ready for something with more colour. so i would sugest starting with something cheap and tough yes; but something you would want in your tank in the future.

ps: i started out with ugly brown mushrooms now i am still trying to keep them under controll even now. i should have got better looking mushrooms at the start.

I love my shrooms! They do really help fill the tank out . here is some pics of my varieties.
