Hi Guys,

I just got Kole Tang 2 days ago. I tried to feed him with Ocean Nutrition Formula & Cyclopeeze but it doesn't eat at all.

Which food is best to use to get it to open mouth?
I saw alot of forumer try seaweed but it doesn't seems to do the trick.
I thought of trying mysis, but it would contaminate the tank very fast if it doesn't eat.

maybe try NLS pellets like thera A. he'll eat anything you provide anyway once he's settled in the new surrounding. so i wouldn't worry too much.

Since he still getting used to the surrounding, At the meantime should I try those food?
I can see that he isn't that skittish, he still occasionally swim out to the open & nip those rock.

Seems to me Kole tangs, blue eyes , and others in that sub spices really like to graze on the rocks and glass and rarely go for floating foods in my experience.... I'd try some nori clipped to a rock

I'd try adding garlic or Selcon to any food you offer, which seems to kick in their appetite IME. I'd also try Reef Frenzy frozen food, and experiment with different colors of nori, IME some fish refuse red, are iffy about green, but LOVE purple, just as a random example. I've also had good luck with live caleurpa, although I've only tried this with Naso and Zebrasoma. Good luck :fish1:

I never worry about a new fish eating for the first week, sometimes two. You can try all sorts of different foods, and at some point it'll eat something. You'll think, eureka, miracle food; when actually it was just time for it to start eating.

I don't find bristles to be the easiest fish to feed. They're detritivores that graze the rocks for slime algaes and crap. They will eventually take prepared foods, though mine aren't all that interested in nori.

this.

well, I guess I just keep moderate feeding throughout the tank & monitor for this week.
But i'll think I'll try to get some nori & split a bit, stuck it into some rock gap see whether his gonna take or not.

Thanks for the comment, will keep updated.

Mine completely ignores the Nori but goes nuts over everything else it can get in its mouth that's in the LRS Reef Frenzy. It's also constantly picking at rocks. I also feed two sizes of NLS pellets but have never noticed the Kole eating them.

mine had started to graze algae on glass & rock, but still haven't take any prepare food.
Yesterday i saw something like white spot, but this morning i re-check doesn't seems to have anything on the body. will continue monitor.

they're very hard working cleaner. picking on rocks and glass all day long. i'd suggest to consider quarantining the future purchases though. it's better to observe and treat that way if something bad shows up. good luck.

Ya, I didn't QT it is due to the fish shop always QT their newly arrive livestock & treat it with med first.
Anyhow, Base on the current process, It still doesn't show any negativity, I do not wants to do anything to stress him out first.

Thanks

Like others said they Graz all day. Add a sheet of nori wrapped around a piece of rock has one example. Feed other fish and they may pick at a few.

Best piece of advise I can pass on to you is to leave one piece of glass alone and let it build up algae. Somewhere you won't notice as much but it will turn into an area that it will go to when hungry. Mine loved it.

I already slip a small pieces of seaweed between rock, but still no response from it. I'm going to leave it there until tomorrow only take it out.
Anyhow, it did graze on those algae growth on my glass. Just that it doesn't graze that much.

LFS do not provide adequate quarantine, no matter what they tell you. The very nature of the business model prevents it.

Algae sheets robber banded to a rock worked well for me. Also new tangs usually don't eat right away. Give it a couple of days and he should pick on the algae soon.

I can't find any New Era Grazer anymore since they change names due to a lawsuit. Wish i could get more of them marine grazers they love that stuff.

Right now the tang still showing healthy sign, with the amount of algae in my tang for now should be no worries on its diet.
I will feed moderate through out the tank, do not want to contaminate my water parameter by introducing too much food.
As I guess I won't be able to see it to take any prepare food this week. Hopefully by next week it will be entice by the smell of prepare food or i will use fresh gralic to soak the food.
