I am always looking for something nice and now setting up a small 36x24x18 custom build . Will run a ulns and looking to add just one fish preferably herbivore maybe a angel or butterfly that's stays small. This system will be a bare bottom . I will most probably find a fish that's smaller in size and eventually move it to a bigger tank when it grows

a small foxface or some type of tomini/kole tang, but when the get bigger you'll have to move them. Rock Blennys are great too.

Convict tang.

Seems like he would be a bit cramped in a 36" tank. Even the BT tangs would be on the edge. Perhaps the OP already has a larger tank set up. Then yeah, it would be easy to move him when he grows and needs more swimming room.

A 3-foot tank really isn't suitable for any tangs, rabbits, or butterflies.

If you're interested in an angel, you could try a pygmy cherub. They'll graze on some types of algae. You could also try a starry blenny or even a tailspot blenny. Both will eat algae and pellets. Rainsford gobies eat algae to get to the critters living in it. I'm sure I'm forgetting some smaller herbivores, but that's a sample.

Otherwise, you're probably better off with inverts.

My error. I thought this was a standard 75 gallon system. In that case, I revise my recommendation to an algae blenny.
