Hi all, I am pleasantly surprised to have found this Long Island forum, let alone all the LFS that I never knew. I live in E. Quogue, which is the best LFS for live coral? The only store I have been to is Aqua Hut, and I wont buy fish there, and there coral is crap. I used to buy from Reef Shack in Seldon, but they burnt down. Any one know the best store for coral?
Mike

Well, Country Critters on 112 is closest to you but expensive.
There is a list on the top of the LONG Island Reef forum of all stores for you.

Yes, I saw the list, but havent been to any on the list except for Aqua Hut and was just wondering with had the best coral. Country Critters is the closest, do they have allot of coral?

Mike

792, lol I'm right with ya. Actually about 5 miles east. I was in cc last weekend and was a little scared of some of the fish they had. A few were in bad shape. You can try Brian's aquarium in rocky point. Not sure if they have corals.

pets warehouse in copiague, tropical island on deer park avenue, both are worth the trip when you're anywhere near them. Both give a 10% discount on fish/coral stuff too if you have a LIRA card!

Thanks for your input. I think its worth the time, extra money to buy from a lfs than online. I have been burned one too many times buying online. I like to see what I am getting, rather than a fake pic. I just bought a month ago from aquatic connection in FL, Never again, Horrible corals, and my chevron tang died in quarantine. I will have to try the most recommended stores to visit. Thanks, Mike

^^^ Aquacon is one of the WORST on-line businesses out there. If you're going to order on-line,try Liveaquaria.com; especially the Divers Den.

Bluezooaquatics.com has a good rep too.

Best local stores for corals IMO are:
Tropical Island for SPS
PetsWarehouse in Copiague for everything
Aquarium Village - LPS, but they do get nice SPS in sometimes.

Believe it or not, Aquahut sometimes has outstanding deals on nice sized mini-colonies. I bought an A. surhasoni (spelling is not my strong suit) there 3 weeks ago and it is doing very well in my tank. Beautiful coral for a fair price.

I agree with Monkey Fish. Tropical Island has a great selection and prices are good. I do go to Aquahut and check once in a while. I was there yesterday and they had a lot of nice sized pieces. I picked up a good size purple rimmed Monti last night at a great price.

While CC might be the closest their prices are high IMO.

I've been going to aquahut for over two years now, I agree that sometimes there selection is garbage but if u catch them shortly after a large delivery of coral you cant beat their prices. like they got a lot of sps recently which look not colorful but look at their lights, I bet I take one home and it would color up nicely. Always choose wisely No matter where you shop. country critters has some questionable frags for sale too but all their nice pieces are close to 100 a pop. Recently I have been using these forums to obtain all my frags for my tank and its saved me tons of money. I ended up getting some premium sps frags for less then 10$ a piece. You'll never beat that in any store

I think buying frags from the members here and if you want to travel check out Manhatten reefs. Is the way to go.
