Thinking of making my Ten gallon into a reef tank. I used to have a 29 and a 12 gallon reef tank back at my parents house. Now I just have this 10 gallon laying around and an itch to start setting up a new tank. I can't decided exactly what I want to do with it yet, but where would you guys go to buy live rock. I currently live in Lombard.

best LR I've ever bought was from local reefers here on the boards...
but if you're willing to pay top dollar then Beyond the Reef has nice looking LR whenever I stop there.

+1 from other reefers. LFS are to pricey. Tropiquatics in Lombard sells brought in LR from peeps breaking down tanks for 3 bucks a pound. If they dont have any rock from someone bringing it in i would pass. Price is around 8 bucks for stuff they stock through a supplier.

Bought a piece from Tropiquatics in lombard to seed my dry rock. Looked great, but a few days later noticed aptasia growing on it. The rock was pulled and in the trash. Luckily, 4 months later, no sign of it in my tank anywhere.

I would go buy dry rock from Aqua Pros in Glen Ellyn and then get one small piece of live rock from another reefer. The dry rock is like $2/lb.

Cool, thanks guys. I have always wanted to order from that tampabaysaltwater.com place. I looked at the prices though. Ain't nobody got time for dat.

Tampa Bay usually comes with a lot of unwanted hitchhikers as well. A friend of mine lost a lot of livestock from a mantis he couldn't catch for years.

Yeah, to me a lot of the fun when I first set up my tank is looking for the unwanted hitchhikers. I had a Mantis shrimp in my 12 gallon a long time ago. He was really cool.

You can try Reef Imports also they have LR cooking up... But any LFS has it available ReefWise and Sho Tank should also have it available
