im really interested in getting a clam for my current reef tank and was wondering where the best place to get one is? also how do you tell how healthy a clam is? will i have to suppliment it with food and if so what kinds of foods? sorry for all the questions just want to get it right before i actually buy one. thanks,

Mark

john has tons of clams never bought one there so not sure on his prices.

rockin reef just got in several. some are really nice looking. they are only 40.00 and a really nice size.
things to look for are gaping, good color, fullexpansion.
you want to check the foot and make sure it looks healthy and undamaged. It is nice to see it attached to some tiny pieces of rock to help determine health.

when you do get one make sure you study up on which on your have and its proper placement. IE: Crocea in the rockwork.

I think the general rule is clams under 3-4" or so need to be supplimented with phytoplankton. Bigger than 3-4", they can usually produce enough food to survive on their own.

I think the derasa's like the sand, where the maxima's and crocea's like the rocks, like oceana said.

John does usually have a nice selection.

actually clams over 3-4 inches don't even need a foot anymore it basically keeps it from being blown around when small. no sciantist here just what I have read.
