Best metal halide reflector for wide AND deep tank

Hello everyone,

I know this discussion has been had, and several very informative studies and comparisons have been posted with respect to certain reflectors and their ability to light tanks of certain dimensions. I have attempted to do quite a bit of research on the topic and most of the discussions have been focused on the best reflectors for wider tanks OR deeper tanks. I am currently building a decently large system with a 96" x 48" x 48" display. I have narrowed my choices down to a few potential reflectors, which are the Lumenmax (large or elite) or the lumenbright large. I am planning using Ushio 400 watt 14k bulbs and am looking for a reflector that can both penetrate the depth of the tank as well as give a solid spread considering the tanks width. I will not have a ton of room above the water line to adjust height above water, but I guess the height of the reflectors themselves will pay a part in that. What does everything think of these reflectors and the current options out there for a tank my size...that I'm planning on filling with 75% SPS 25% mixed reef. The help is appreciated!!!

I'm using lumen max elites but they are discontinued... I'd look at sunlight supply's website... They will have something u can use for sure ....it's a little outside the box cause it's a horticulturist web site but u can use reflectors anywhere ...

Thanks for the reply. I believe I can still obtain the Lumenmax elites. How do you like them? How deep is your tank?

My tank is 30" deep my previous tank was 26" deep great coverage, I'll be lighting all 5 halides on the tank soon 30" deep 36" wide I'll let u know how they cove r

Awesome, thanks. My goal obviously is to find a reflector that has both solid coverage across a 48" wide tank and can penetrate a 48" deep tank. I have heard that the Lumenmax elites have very good even coverage, but that the lumenbrights might have better penetration.

Look at Reef Brite . There reflectors cover a large area for there small size. Also I increased my lux from 3000 to 8000 with there pendant. I didn't have my par meter to check the difference it was out on loan . Hope this help.
