Best NW pump for 50-80 bucks

Ok guys I need some advice. I built this Protein skimmer...

Link to BUILD and all the details.

I need a needle wheel pump that will push about 500-700 gph to replace the MAG 7. I can see the writing on the wall, 2 year old mag that ran 24/7 for about 3/4 of that time. It gets pretty hot and lets face it a needle wheel pump built to so the job will probably outperform it with no problems...

What would be a good pump for the application.

Is the Octopus 2000 Needle Wheel Water Pump capable of running in-line?
All the pictures I have seen have it running in the sump.

What other options do I have other than Sedra or Ocean Runner.

Genx seem to be noisy so not on the top of the list here.

Would 500 GPH be enough you think??

I figure my mag 7 prop lost and 1/8 of an inch on each paddle so it is probably around 450-500 now...

it's doing alright though

Plain looking pump...lol...Is it really QUIET? I will look around for some more info on it...Thanks...

I am really between an Ocean Runner 2700 and a Octopus OTC-2000... But I don't think either come with a venturi. I have a Venturi from and older pump that is working fine on the mag but it is such an odd size I would have to adapt it to another pump...

Who makes a good venturi?

Oceanrunner would be best IMO
Very quiet, cool, and a great price on fostersmith right now.
Way to go on the DIY skimmer!

Thanks Davo...It was a blast to make. I am very happy with it just the way it is with the mag, BUT... Thats never enough, I just have to see how it will stand up to the big EXPENSIVE skimmers with a good pump... I think I will just go with the Oceanrunner.

Should I just get the 2500 and do a MESH mod or get the needle wheel. I noticed Fosters only had the 2500...Maybe I missed the 2700's.

I think the 2500 pushes 700gph.
Should be close to what you want.
I saw alot of raves on the mesh, but I have no input.
