sorry to hear about your tanks, hope they pull through. Been up and down here with some twists. Flickering power caused impeller on return pump in frag system to crap out. Tried superglue fix, worked great for 5 min. Amazon delivery dates are postponed to the 18th. have to find pump locally.
Power went out at 7pm and back on at 10pm Sunday, after stringing cords through the house to power the tanks from the generator. Figured was in good shape. Wife called this am while at work to inform that the AC is out again, had the main board replaced two weeks ago. Good luck trying to get a repair the day after a hurricane. A friend came by and the main board is shot again. Had her unplug all the lights from the tanks so they didn't get too hot. Came home and the outside of display was foggy. Guess the power outages defaulted the chiller to 57 degrees, Tank was 69 degrees. This hobby is crazy, it's always something and I keep coming back for more punishment

I know I wasn't the only one losing stuff..I lost my new clam I believe that's it v so far I'm doing the bottle and bubbler method let's see see how long this will last.. still no electric here.. so sorry for everyone's loses

I don't have much since I had a tank crash not to long ago but now I have my clownfish pair and a wrasse still holding up. I've done about 30g total water change, just did my last 10g no more frozen bottles and two bubblers still going. Hopefully I get light soon, any suggestions on what else I can do ? No luck with ice everyone is out.

I used a plastic container with a handle to pick up water from the surface and return it from a foot on top producing current and oxygenating the water, I did this non stop every 15 min for the 20 plus hours until The weather allowed me to fire the generator at which point I hooked up the Tunze's

List of losses after 48-hours with no power:

Base of large validia colony
Center of sunset milli
Entire diabolical pacman
Most of the crayola plana I got from Rovi
Pink Milli

No fish losses.

Interesting because temp stayed around 80. And with two bubblers, fish did fine. I guess it was the lack of flow...

Yes flow with corals is essential, more than anything, I was able to avoid coral loses by just pouring water from the tank back in from above every 15min

Armando I lost all my acros. Happened faster than I thought. Funny I had a smaller side tank going that I did nothing to while my main tank I was agitating and stirring several times an hour and no casualties side tank and main tank catastrophe. Main tank was jam packed with life so more to die which made a huge difference. Honestly even if I had a generator I wouldn't have been able to run it until storm passed not sure how much of a difference it would have made. We were 30+ hrs without power temp was not an issue just lack of circulation.

I'm sorry rovi. I am on the other side of the state now, but if you want to make a road trip, you can leave with a frag of every acro I have left. Which is at least 40 to 50 different colonies. Assuming no further losses.

The same thing happened to me when power rest triggered the default setting, fortunately, i hook the chiller to Apex, it shut the chiller off when the temp is below 75 degrees.

Roger, sorry for your loss. Luckily, my house in Weston didn't lose any power during the storm. My office tank also survived since no power loss in the building either. Let me know if I can be any help.

Weston fancy area, never lost power in Wilma and Irma...

Some areas of weston appear to never lose power, o know someone in a beach condo that didn't lose power either but I did lose power for both hurricanes wilma and Irma although Irma was a lot less intense IMO than Wilma was

We better plan for the next one,.. if we were to evacuate, if I take out few of my fishs and coral and put in a 5 gallon bucket and drive north.. you think is a good idea? just to keep a battery airpump and stuff and plug it in when I hit a hotel or somewhere? of course we going to bring another 5 gallon of fresh sea water to change...

What you all think? It is better than leaving in the house waiting for the entire tank to be wipe out by heat and lost of air.. if power goes, it will at least be a few days to a week without power.

thoughts?

That's a good question, and I have no good answer, I know fish when they are ship to wholesalers they spend 24-48 hours in bags and the ph lowers in the bags to under 6 sometimes and the ammonia build up is high, the acclimation process is slow and delicate, I am sure a bucket would have similar effects so you will need to not just change water but also be checking that the new water has the same ph otherwise they will go on shock and could die. You would also have to figure out how to neutralize the ammonia

Quick question for those following this thread. We got power back last night water never got over 81°.

Due to lack of circulation there were many coral losses.

Today my female crosshatch trigger has a Popeye and it's cloudy. Any thoughts on in tank treatment?

alright, guys hang in there and keep the faith it's been a crazy ride. Went by the LFS store last night to borrow a pump. Owner had generator fired up and head lamp on running around keeping his livestock alive. No estimate from FPL on power restoration, no bueno.
Ran home and hooked up the pump, house was 84, then split over to in laws to eat dinner in AC. Came home and went to bed. On way to work this morning walked by room with the frag tank and freaked out from the noise. The bottom tank/sump was almost empty and the top tank was overflowing. Unplugged the tank, opened the drain valve wide open and left for work. Went with the herbie on a deep blue frag tank, return piped over the top. What's the odds of snails clogging the drain and emergency overflow at the same time? Odds are pretty good after a hurricane lol. Going to rework the plumbing this weekend. Most of the acro in the tank are toast or soon to be goners from the looks of it. A/C was fixed today so things are looking up.

Sorry to hear about the losses, lost my whole tank with failure of the battery pumps I had bought last year. Still no power been out since Friday evening. Decided to trying to find a bright side looking to upgrade the tank and redo it. Did some things I didn't like that I wanted to change but it was too much hassle to take the tank apart with the livestock in it.[emoji53]
