best over flow?

A life reef style with the u-tube is the best way to go. I do NOT recommend using one that requires a lift pump to maintain a continuous siphon. I did that for a year and disaster is inevitable.

Especially combining an overflow that requires a lift pump with an auto top off. Eventually, the lift pump fails and your ATO empties into your display, dropping your Sg and increasing the water level of your floors :headwalls:

If you have to go with an external overflow I second Life Reef. I had mine a few years, only maintenance is to swap or clean the U tube from time to time as it gets filled with algae and such and slows flow.

For a 29 if its empty or can be easily emptied you can drill it and use a kit like those from "glass holes".

I ran a HOB overflow from Eshopps for a year or so and had great luck with it. I have no experience with Lifereef products, so I can't say it's better or worse, but IIRC it's a good cheaper option, and was WAAAY better than the CPR overflow I had prior.

You can drill a tank that is full too, just have to take a little water out. ...although getting to the back of it is probably a pain.

I spent months wishing that I had drilled after setting up a HOB overflow on my 55. I drilled when I set up my 75 and 90.
