Best Place For Both Divers and Non-Divers

I recently obtained my PADI certification and want to book a dive trip. My wife is not a diver, but is happy if there is a beach and some shopping available. What are your recommendations?

Playa Del Carmen is great for shopping and Cozumel is great for diving...its a 45 minute boat ride between both places. They have boat shuttles every hour or so till 10 pm.. Caymen islands good for both also, bit more expensive though.

I suggest you do research on wherever you choose, most dive outfits do a 2 tank morning dive, which the first dive is usually a deeper dive.

I like Thailand for both amazing scenery and touring as well as good diving/snorkling. I'd recommend Ao Nang near Krabi. You can get to most of the same dive spots as if you stayed in Phuket, but with less crowds.

good suggestion, lots to do in thailand....keep in mind that you'll be out for the whole day if you book a boat dive. 2 tanks is the norm, expect a 6-8 hour block of time.

The reef in Cozumel was pretty beaten up when I went at the end of 2010.

Have you thought about travelling across to the Red Sea destinations?

I'm not sure what the US travel guidlelines for Egypt are but the Brits are still going there. There has been no real trouble in Sharm, but you might not get a chance to see the Pyramids and Luxor etc.
