Best QT option for Achilles tang

Aandfsoccr04 I personally would use the tank transfer method followed by cupramine or chloroquine phosphate for treatment of and crypto irritants. Start after the TT and after you have used prazipro

Why use TT and copper? Seems like a lot of unnecessary stress on the fish.

I prefer cupramine. I don't always use full strength, depending on the fish. Prazipro is also a great med, as is NFG powder.

I just want to know what would be the best way to go about it for this fish?

For example:
week one: just observe and get eating
Week two: start dosing x product at x amount
week three and four: make sure eating and doing ok with x product
week five: observe
week six: x product

etc.

I suggested both because after reading other posts, it seems that they don't know really anything about meds and I'm assuming they don't know anything about the TT method. Since the TT method is highly effective only if it is done correctly, I was betting on it not working like it should if they were to attempt it.

Wk1 treat with Prazipro and get fish eating. PP won't effect appetite
Wk2 I personally treat another round of PP
Wk3-8 cupramine or chloroquine phosphate, if you use the phosphate 10 days of treatment is usually sufficient. If you use phosphate I would then observe for 2 weeks to make sure fish is healthy and disease free

Hey guys. I a 4ish inch AT in QT at the moment, so I'm in the same boat as you all. I'm also going to be trying CP. Right now, it's only been a few days. He's eating brine and nori. Samples mysis, but spits it out so far.

As long as he's eating something ;-) i've had my achilles going on 2 years now...it took him over a year to eat NLS pellets, and i'm still working on trying to get him to eat mysis.

I'd suggest keeping him in QT, until he's eating a variety of foods. Here's a video and some details, with my Powder Blue in QT. He eats very well and is quite fat, now.

achillies

hello all, i was going to share my recent experiences of recent with the epic and elusive Achilles. So a little back ground, I am smack in the middle of oklahoma, we have some pretty good shops around here but rarely see anything healthy this high end. there is a couple of differnt facebook groups for locals with BATTLES over ich and tangs. it gets pretty internet heated. SO my gf and i decided to start ordering fish and condition/qt them then hooking up our friends with them. We have done 2 achiilies and a pb for friends. its been pretty awesome so far, i get to set up more tanks and have awesome fish around all the time.

so round 1

We have a couple that we have become pretty close to and they JUST set up a custom 240g, and wanted a pb and a Achilles. so we abby and i decided that we would see if we could get those fish and qt them and then sell them to the couple.
we use tank transfer and prazipro

it worked pretty well we have used the following protocol ever time.
day 0- fish arrive ( we got one from petco and one from ERA) we matched the SG to each respective fish ,1.023 and 1.019. we float the bag for 25 minutes then in goes the fish ( we don't drip fish if they are shipped) We set up 2 20g Long RIGHT next to each other so the fish could see each other. the pb was about 3 and Achilles was 3.5) we use a sterile set up with PVC of all sizes and a heater
day 1 - we rubber band nori all over the pvc and start to feed, we feed everything we have - NLS pelletrs, flakes, mysis , mega marine, brine, etc what ever we need to do to get the fish eating well
day 2/3 repeat - we trash the water with food prn, if the fish starts eating well we scale it back and feed about every 2 hours from 6am to midnight
day 4 trasnfer in the am per tt sticky
day 5/6 repeat feedings
day 7 transfer add prazipro per ins
day 8 /9 repeat feedings
day 10 transfer add prazipro per ins
day 11/12 repeat feedings
day 13 transfer to new home and done

Its pretty easy to do, the hardest part for us in the rodi - small unit that basically runs 24/7 to make that much water for and the cost of salt can add up. we also have plenty of 20g long so we use one, i wipe it down then it sits outisde in the garage for min of 5 days before used agian. we also use the same heaters and same hobs.

reason for t t over cu or hypo
copper scares me, i know very little about it and hypo i fear AMM level getting to high soooooo i loved the idea or being able to TRASH the tank with food to ensure then fish starts eating. And u basically do a FULL water change every 3 days so nutrients aren't really a issue.

here is some vidoes of said fish eating
this is tank the second achillies we qt'ed - he got his name from a malfucting heater that raised his tank want to 90, i saw it and dumped ice in his tank for a couple of hours and he just didnt care - got pretty luckly on that one

this was the set up for luna (pb) and lavos (achiliies) left some pvc inbetween that way if they got to aggressive we would add a towel so they couldnt see each other - these fish have now been together for about 3 months with no issues

here is a vid of noah hand feeding lavos after a couple of weeks

and finally we have a achillies hybrid in qt now , we got him from DD on tuesday and he is amazing - he is not out of the woods yet on his second tank and is eating okay not great yet -- we may keep this one, he was listed as 3.5 but i would say 2 lol

Well, here's the situation. He's still eating, but he's turned brown, and is flashing. I'm guessing ich. So I think I'm going to have to start his Chloroquine treatment today. Assuming it clears up, I'll have two choices:
a. Put him in the DT right away, after he is cured of ich.
b. Wait a few weeks and treat with Prazi as well. If I go this route, there is a chance he will get reinfected(as CP does not kill encrusted tomonts) and so I will have to treat him twice.

I'm thinking option a is better. Get him ich free and into the DT, where I can work on fattening him up. However, I won't be able to use prazi.

BTW: that's a beautiful hybrid you got there bobkill. Most of the hybrid ATs I've seen on liveaquaria didn't look that great.

So I've had my AT in qt for two weeks...he's eating Niro and brine great, mysis not so much... Haven't clearly seen "ich" on him but there where air bubble looking bubbles on his skin....i have an airator (sp?) so I was thinking maybe they are air bubbles...it's like one or two...but maybe I'm kidding myself and it is ich...but no flashing or scratching on side...should I treat with something or keep feeding him heavily and keep observation? Thanks guys...

I would treat with cupramine or CP, air bubbles won't stick to a fishes skin. If you have oolite size sand that can sometimes get stirred up and stick to the slime coat, but you would notice that

Cp and cupramine is what I would use. My Achilles is fat and happy right now and I treated him in Cupramine for 6 weeks

Hey guys, I recently upgraded to a 250DD and wanted to get an Achilles to get things going in the right track.
Day 1: Got my Achilles, checked all paramater in my 250DD and it had 0.2 ammonia (**** day too soon).
So I acclimated him to my established 90 Bowfront, stressed bc I had a yellow tang. In he went after a long drip acclimation. (Gravity 1.020 bag and 1.024 tank)

At midnight I got up to check on my new baby. Found yellow tang attacking my Achilles, with 3 stab wounds! AWWWWHHH HEEELLLLL NAWWWW (ghetto voice).
I was able to catch my Yellow tang that night while I'm sure stressing out my Achilles. Yellow went into the sump.

Next day he and my foxface where best friends.
Fast forward a few days, he started getting ICH. ****! Eating okay.

Started messaging "bobkill". He recommended QT with TT. So in he went into 20gal QT.

Followed Bobkill's instructions per post on TT.
"day 1 - we rubber band nori all over the pvc and start to feed, we feed everything we have - NLS pelletrs, flakes, mysis , mega marine, brine, etc what ever we need to do to get the fish eating well

day 7 transfer add prazipro per ins
day 8 /9 repeat feedings
day 10 transfer add prazipro per ins
day 11/12 repeat feedings
day 13 transfer to new home and done"

Set up wifi camera, purchased $120+ in different foods. PE Mysis, Rogers, Rods, Veggie Delight, Calurpra, red live sea weed, sea letus, flakes, etc.

around second TT he was ich free again. :)

Here he is in QT. Appetite went down when I added Prazi Pro and Amquel (ammonia reducer). He mainly only ate Nori. Towards the end he started eating PE Mysis with garlic.

After 4 TT per instructions he went into my DT with no visible signs of ich.

Once I put him in my 250DD 60x36x28 he was really happy, swimming like there is no tomorrow. I threw in Nori wrapped around pvcs through-out the tank. He went to town on the Nori.
Fast forward a few days, Fat and happy. So fat he might have to go on a diet. :) I added PE Mysis with Garlic Extreme and he started going to town on that too. Now he is eating both of those options with Garlic Extreme and Selcon Drops, NLS Pellets are catching his attention but no luck yet.

I've had him 22 days now, and he rules the tank, less shy now too.

I will post an updated pic. Just a MAJOR hassle to take pic, upload to photobucket, then upload here. Photobucket takes forever.

Question for all you Achilles owners. Mine went ich free for about 2 months and eventually got it when I added a new fish. Almost lost fish new wrasse in qt so I through him in DT short of QT, big mistake. Fast forward, He eventually got ich, however he is eating well, fat and have increased in size. Ich went away for a week then returned.

Another local told me not to worry about the ich, as long as the ich is eating he will deal with it and his immunity will build. And will probably get ich during a stressful event, but that's it.

I really don't want to try to catch 10 fish and qt them while the tank goes fishless. My current plan is to let it be and just keep him fat and stress free as possible.
