Best QT option for Achilles tang

Squid: congrats on your AT. I was just reading on LA website everything the fish go thru before making it to the DD! Wow you should read it. My was not a DD just a LA on sale from Cali! Yours has been treated for fluke and wormed etc if they do all they say they do before it makes it to the DD which I think they do! DD is a 3,000 gallon set up so they can't take any chances ! You got a good fish if it came from DD! Even thou you paid more than I did in the long run its worth it for a nice healthy fish!

I did not see the one in the DD but I was busy till around noon with my AT. It must of sold very quick! Squid :: how big is yours? What size tank is he in? QT or DT? Keep us all updated! I want to see how these fish do with all of us weekly or daily

They say the AT stress easy! I think now after getting mine it's not so much the AT stressing its all of us new owners! Or maybe it's just me! :)

Ridem32...thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I will probably take the chance next week and add him to see how it goes and keep everyone posted. I'm going to test different theories w/ what people say about the AT and also follow what I know with my own experiences w/ tangs. If most people are right about the AT then he will probably be consumed with ick with days or a week in my display but I feel gutty that he will be fine since he isn't getting it from his qt w/ the same display water. I know that the other fish may stress him out but I have a lot of fishes in my 210 where it is so like a community now and it seems very peaceful. I added a little hippo tang and kole tang after 3 weeks in qt two weeks ago and they were fine. My blue tang did get a major ick outbreak in qt but he beat it on his own and is now immune to it. I've done fallow in the past but w/ velvet, fluke and brook but think that most tank have ick. Good care and letting a new fish acclimate and adjust will help it immune to it. Now I think that the outcome of this will go south if I immediately put him in display subsequently to receiving it. Got to see where my poker chips take me on this one.

I will keep my AT in the 75g QT for at least another 5-6 wks for a total of 7-8 weeks with close observation and with advice and talking to others who have kept them successfully will be treating proactively first with prazipro, then with cupramine. I'm not taking any chances with with this guy!

Alvin (AT) ate good this morning! He will stay in QT min of 6 to 8 weeks! Time in the QT does not matter to me I might even go longer! Rather keep my new buddy Alvin alive than rush him to the DT I will only use prazi or copper if needed! Some fish don't take copper good! I know lionfish don't! I'm going to try my best to keep him healthy and stress free! I think if a fish is healthy and stress free should be ok! But if I see any sign of any change in him I will use prazi or copper which ever I need at the time! I will use garlic & selcon to soak food everytime I feed him! Any fish can get ich at any time as far as I know! A healthy fish can fight it better than a poor sick fish ! I just hope we all have good luck with all of our new AT's. I also have a UV on all my tanks!

I think they do fine in copper and i will treat it for it even if i dont any. I had a ich free tank till recently when i trusted a fellow reefer that he qt his tank.. Been ich free for 5+ years. I will proactively treat all fish from now on.

That's great to hear. Gotta give props to the folks at Quality Marine in Socal too..

Yes much thanks to Quality Marine for having just that! Here is a pic of mine in the 75 QT. His tail has turned bright orange just in the 2 weeks I have had him. It was very dull the first 10 or so days I had him, maybe because of the TT he was stressed out and not showing much color

Thank you I believe I am in the clear now with eating well and will start treatment soon for flukes with PP and always be looking for the "I" word. I did para guard dip him for a hr when I first got him before the TT so fingers crossed almost a 1/4 of the way full on the 220, RO is slow especially when I only have it on while at home here is a few pics
