I'm looking into getting an attractive rabbitfish that will eat a lot of algae.

My LFS has a small scribbled rabbitfish. The owner told me it will eat the most different types of algae.

beautiful fish. I've only had experience with the common one spot foxface.. .that thing will eat anything. Algae, pods molts floating around, fish poop

what kind of algea are you looking for him to eat?

The green and brown algae that grows on the back of the tank and other places i can't clean easily. I'm not sure about other algaes that will pop up in the tank, the tank has been running for just three weeks. So far I have 15 hermits, 1 turbo snail, 3 Banded Trochus Snails, 4 blue/green chromis and a chalk bass.

If you want a tang to clean the glass the best bet will be a bristletooth tang. Rabbits are great cleaners but they don't have the mouth for glass. ;)

I have an orange spot rabbitfish that wont let ANY algae grow in my 160. He is the best algae eater I have ever seen. I can't say if they are all the same because this is the only one I've ever had, but he is an absolute algae destroyer.

Here is a decent article: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/rabbitfi.htm

I have a blue spotted rabbitfish (S. corallinus) in my 210. Raised it from 2" to about 8" over 3-4 years.

Here is an old picture of mine, doesn't do the fish justice:

My tank has a high bioload and is pretty much algae free on rocks and back. I do have to scrape the glass in the front and sides.

This is a fantastic fish, gets along with everybody, eats well, looks good. Kind of like a tang without all the attitude.
