Best reef salt??

TM has phosphates which may trigger undesired algae growth. I had a red slime problem when I used IO but that is when I fist started the hobby too. I have not tried red sea coral pro yet but plan to with my next bucket. Reef crystals seem to be fairly consistent. I don't test every bucket though. There is a few more brands that are supposed to be good but they aren't sold anywhere near me. I can't even think of there names right now either.

Edit: Rich, I agree with the cost of "fixing" a bucket of salt that is short in one element. Also, I have always been curious....do you keep SPS in a bare bottom? Cause that's a lot of flow you have listed.

The 58g was LPS/SPS with a 4" sandbed.

The 72 that is replacing it is barebottom.

for whatever reason IO has issues with cyno = red slime algae.
Cyano = CyanoBacteria not Cyanoalgae

I doubt that there is a real answer to that. I do not think that there is a "bad" salt out there. Keeping in mind that CA levels might be a bit lower in IO (still within acceptable limits all the same) all the rest of the comparisons are splitting hairs. Which is better, Ford or Chevy? :)

Salt will never mix up the same from one person to the next. And I also agree I dont think you will ever be able to say which is best. It comes down to alot of things. Do you use RO water, what type of system are you running? Softies, Mixed, SPS. this will vary on ALK, Calcium & mag levels which all varies in all salts.

I run a 210 Gallon mixed reef with mainly SPS with 450 Calc, 9.5 DKH, 1300 Mag and I use IO salt. I am trying the Red Sea Pro Reef Salt since I was give 150 Gallons worth of changes for free at Dr. Forster & Smith frag swap.

I did my first change with a week ago and I did get a cynao break out. I dont know if this was realeated?

I started with Topic Marin Salt good stuff but it does not have the calcium content I need for the reef tank I am currently raising. I tried Reef Crystals and now I am going to try Seachem just to see if the quality is the same. If not I will stay with the Reef Crystals.

The cleaning process for Red Sea Salt is not yet ideal and some people have reported microalgae outbreaks immediatly after switching to this salt.

Also, Reef Crystals and Seachem Marine Salt are very close in composition.
