Best return pump?

Not sure what you mean by hard to dial in on the Vectra. I have the L1 and I can throttle up or down the flow rate. If that's not enough, you can always use a valve to further tune the flow rate you want.

I could have sworn I saw a video where you had to like calibrate it or set it a specific way

Be wary of cheap return pumps. Bu cheap, I mean quality, not price. We all should have a backup so it seems easy to go for a cheap pump because the backup is cheap too. Just keep in mind that if your return dies while you're gone for an extended period of time, as little as a weekend, your tank could die with it.

I've gone down the cheap path and realized there's a reason why most folks who've been in the hobby for a long time continue to be slow to embrace new fads or cheap equipment.

And again, I'm talking cheap, not inexpensive. From what I've seen most people can get a good quality pump that meets their tank's needs for very close to the cost of the jebao without the worry that it will die in 2 months, 6 months, or even 2 years.

Most of my experience has been with an Eheim. A Waveline didn't perform to expectations and died not much later as a mixing pump. I just purchased a used Sicce for a return on my 220 but it will likely become the backup as I currently have my eye on the Fluval SP4. I was tempted, heavily, by the Vectra's but I'd like to see longevity before I commit to one as my return.

Good luck with your choice though!

It's a good idea to calibrate the vectra but it's a feature not a requirement. If you buy D.C. You should oversize a bit or more. Calibration of the vectra sets a minimum and maximum flow with the pump running.

Why minimum? You can set the pump to zero flow so you can feed or do maintenance without changing your tank or sump level.

Why maximum? You can buy a larger pump than you need but move the dial on accident or on purpose and not overflow your tank or make excessive noise because your drain can't handle the flow.

Hope this helps.

I would say the jeboa pumps are considered inexpensive, but I hardly consider them cheap. My opinion is they are being built to compete well in the market. You can find some similar opinions by searching this forum and ********* and Amazon reviews. My boss has been utilizing them on 125s and 220s, and I've been running mine for about 11 months now. I also consider them to be extremely quiet, one of the quietest pumps ive owned.

I'm on my phone so I can't provide the links you asked for, but just give it a search on here and the other forums. you can see their prices on Amazon as well. I wish I could remember what the link was... sorry

Good luck tho, there are a lot of good options.

11 months... Save this post for when you hit 11 years... Or at least 5.

Whatever decide to get buy two. Because one Sunday morning you're going to wake up and your return pump is going to be broken and all the shops will be closed and you'll wish you did.

Exactly.

I have no problem with Jebao pumps as long as people know what they're getting into. People should get years of trouble free operation out of their return, not months. It's not that you CAN'T get years out of Jebao, it's that you're significantly less likely than with a tried and true pump.

You just don't see people on reef forums complaining about all of their Eheim's, Tunze, Iwaki, Pan World, Sicce, Reeflo, or even mag drives have died after a short period of time.

I don't doubt that the Jebao's deliver good, though not stated, flow or that they are extremely quiet. I'll take a slightly louder Eheim or Sicce for more money because I know it will last a VERY long time and is much less likely to quit at an inopportune time.

If you must go DC, look for something that has a long warranty at least. I'll make the switch back to DC someday, but until then my trust AC pumps will be just fine.

Now, if I could only find replacement feet lol!

and this....(although it is easier for me since I use multiples of the same pump, so I only need one backup)

When was the last time you logged onto the forum to a thread titled "My Eheim is dead!" :lolspin:

Eheim's never die, they just fade away! Semper Fi!

By the way, can't you get replacement feet directly from the manufacturer?

Really, you all don't know how long my Waveline 12000 is going to last because they haven't been making them for 12 years! I hope it lasts as long as my Eheim has.

In my experience Magdrive, Eheim, and Sicce last for ever. I have the 3 mentioned running about 3 years. Have been having issues lately with my Jebao/Jecod after 10 months. I have had a taam impeller swell and another impeller get stuck on another taam. The ones that have failed have failed as return and chiller pumps. The reliable ones I have abused first as returns then in mixing containers keeping them as spares for emergencies.

The new Sicce syncra adv and sdc gives 5 years warranty, i Think this pump Will blow all other away! Realease in Europe May 2017.
