How do you guys ship out the styrofoam box? I have a styrofoam box, but I don't think I can just ship the box like that. How do I IMF a box that can fit it?

buy the quality coolers and boxes from U-line I linked...

Or grab a box knife and some tape and cut a custom box to size out of a larger box.

thats the thing with those U-line(and similar) quality pre-ready packaging materials. If you add up the facts that it IS a quality thick walled cooler that will give you more control, and you dont have to look around for nor deal with finding a box to ship in, $6-10 a piece all of a sudden starts to sound pretty cheap.

I'd there anything better for environent than styrofoam? I know styrofoam aren't biodegradable and recyclable.

You could always ship in a igloo coolers. It can be reused may times. One thing to remember is that you will still need a bow styro or igloo coolers. Fedex requires it.

They are recyclable in the sense you can just keep using them over and over.

as far as the biodegradable thing, I just burn mine when I get too many and they seem to degrade just fine :D

but seriously, whether or not it is the greenest thing to do, I have shipped and recieved manyt imes in thermos and similar quite a bit as well, but simply wont use them anymore for the same temp control aspects I mentioned above. They can work fine and many use them with success, but not good enough for me. Find me a recyclable container that can compare in both cost and fucntion and I would certainly use it instead.

Nomatter who the carrier is the weight has nothing to do with calculating cost. They all use what is called dimensional weight, wich is calculated by the dimensions of the package.

yea, i'm pretty sure its the weight that matters more.

just giving my 2cents worth but stryo boxes get reused here for aclamating live corals inverts etc and even when i go to coral swaps i use them for keeping corals at the proper temp

What kind of shipping company do you guys use? I try getting a few quote and I don't understand why fedex is very expensive. For an 3lb box, 17x14x14, from 94134 to 10005 cost 116.00 bucks over standard night. Why so expensive?

Not knowing what areas those 2 zip codes represent I'm not sure why your quote was that high. The only reason I can see is that that box is pretty big. Fed Ex usually runs me $60 - $80 from Tennesssee to most parts of the country. This is for smaller boxes in the 12-14 x 10-12 x 10-12 range though

every time I have bought frags they have come home with the water they are used to I like to drip acclumate them to the tanks water after a temp floating I know that when I asked my lfs about it they said that is what is done with all of our live stock too

i glue frags on styrofoam and wrap the large ones so they won't stab the bag and leak. make sure if you ship through fed ex that the dollar value declared is less than 500 or they will have to search the contents unless you're using a special permit or bus. lic. and last, between two extremes, the survival rate is higher with colder temperature than hotter temps. jmtc
