Best skimmer for under $250????

If it is in sump, I would go with the Aqua Euro 135 - it now comes with a bubble plate and a new pump design.

HawgFan, the sump or no sump answer is needed before a recommendation can be made.

If you have a sump, I'd take the used ER RS 135. Mine takes care of my 90 with many fish and over 60 corals.

For a 55 I would go with the octopus extreme 160. Most skimmers mentioned have a largish footprint and wouldn't fit in your sump. What are the deminsions your skimmer needs to fit in your 55s sump?

I was going to suggest the MSX160, but it is a little over the $250 budget. I wouldn't say what fits or doesn't fit in a sump without knowing what the available space is.

Yeah, I treated his price as a ball park figure =P

I am breaking in a 160 for a friends 55g and all I have to say is this thing packs a punch for its package size. 8x10" footprint. Awesome for a 55g since they are only 12" front to back with the stands usually having about 8.5 - 9" front to back internal deminsions.

I like the MSX over the Octo right now since they come with a better pinwheel.

The Vertex 80 and 100 ($135, $200) also show having an 8 x 10 footprint.
