Best Skimmer $ no object

Hey guys,

I have a 130g reef tank fully stocked with fish and all types of corals. I have a reef octopus skimmer, and its a PITA to calibrate. One day it will suck out an inch of tar, and the next it will be overflowing. I feed minimal flake and am not sticking my hand in there. I hate this skimmer.

I have money... don't care about the cost as long as it is THE BEST.

I guess I should mention that I need an in sump skimmer. Don't want any fancy out of tank skimmer setup. Just one that will sit in my sump and get rid of the crap.

Thanks!

Wow this forum is hot! I just posted that before dinner and.... bam
Info out the wazoo. I got lots of research ahead of me. Thanks so much for your opinions!!!!

Looks like you've been helpful too with your 2 posts. My Octopus works fine you just have it set wrong if it's overflowing. Lower the internal water level and/or adjust your water level in the sump and keep it steady. Same as any other in sump skimmer.

I have a top off system so the level is constantly maintained. I know how to set it, and do properly set it. Unfortunately, the level where I set the height of micro bubbles changes for no apparent reason. I am aware that there will be a slight change if I put my hand in the display tank, or feed frozen treats, but that occurs rarely.... just because I cant get the damn thing to stay at a constant level. Its not new either... been dealing with this for 5 months. Got the Red Slime twice because of it!

I would get an external NW skimmer. Bubble king sells them or ATB.

The best part about external skimmer it doesnt matter where the water level in the sump is it will not matter. You can run these insump, that is how i have mine. They are true, set and forget skimmers.

I am running an I-Tech 100 on my 120g, and I love it. If you really want some powerful skimming your could pick up the I-Tech 200.
