OK needing some good feedback on some BAD *** skimmers!!! I'm getting ready to set up a 600 Gallon muti tank sps/lps system and am stumped on which skimmer to buy!!! When you start to get up this big in gallons it becomes harder, most manufactures make their skimmers for the common aquarium! Any input from someone that has ran a skimmer on this big of a set up, your input would be much apreciated!! Thanks

BK, that's what i have been using since ATB. running supermarin 250, when i got 50+ fish in the system(2.5 oz of Mysis shrimp + Oyster feast + rods food) , it handle it like a pro. i just upgrade to supermarin 300. super quite skimmer. if you got a head cleaner, it just run by itself and once a month i clean out the whole cup.
ATB, nicely made skimmer also, i try out their cone style, if water level higher than 10" you might have issue to get it adjust it right.
Octopus, best bang for your buck skimmer.

Bubble kings are well, both for small (mini's) as the big ones for lager tanks. They got almost any size. The biggest i could find a the first dutch shop i typed in was rated up to 2300 gallons.

Also their rating is way more fair then most other manufacturers. So you can actually use that rating instead of dividing it in two.

I have a jns shark 7 for 500G system. if there is something it is skimming to much... It works great!

Thanks for the input guys!!! I have looked at the bubble king and it looks GREAT but the price is a little high. Was looking to spend more in the 8-12 hundred range!!! I was looking at the JNS shark 7 but not alot of feedback out there! I want a skimmer that can handle the load but also find replacment parts very easy! I need some more input guys! The bubble king is awesome but for 2 G's I would think I could find something a little more affordable! What ya think? I dont want to be disapointed though, if I need to spend the extra money I will!!!

YT8181 - thanks for posting this. I too have been looking for a similar skimmer for my 550g DT build. I heard from another reefer who recommended the BK Supermarin 300 or Vertex Alpha 300.

I myself am leaning towards the BK. I am however wondering if a skimmer is needed at all though. I have sen many post that they are not running skimmers, but it does seem as though they are critically needed during the setup phases.

GEO custom skimmer would be my choice. He can build to whatever size system you have and his attention to detail is the best. Just send him a PM and see for yourself.

Nice looking skimmer Dave. George an I just mentioned that thing. I was over at the shop talking about how I seen a picture of it. He laughed and said I should see it in person. :)

Octopus xp-5000 or the xp-8000.

I currently run the XP 3000 on my 350g and it does OK with light feedings but I am a little unsure if the XP 8000 could handle a heavy loaded 600g with heavy feedings! I love my Octopus but am looking to step it up a bit! GREAT input though, Thanks

After thinking alot about this topic I am really leaning tward the BK Supermarin 300 myself!!! If ClownNut can harbor 50+ fish, feed his corals all that food, and STILL have great water... Its a winner!!! TOO BAD it is two G's!!! Ouch, thats going to hurt!!! My wife said she would split it with me though!:inlove:

I love my BK SM 300 :) Make sure you get the new ones with the speedy pumps.

The old ones are no slouch (have the old one) either, but the new pumps seem even more impressive

Running the SRO xp8000e on my system of about 650 g. Good product for a reasonable price. And excellent customer service also.

Maybe a stupid question, I was also sticker shocked at the price of the largest BKs, is it possible to run multiple smaller rated skimmers? (My plans include a separate hardware room for sumps, pumps, skimmer(s), etc.)

I two have a Supermarin 300 on my 1000 g system and it it by far the best think I have purchased for my tank. Tried the XP-8000 and it was very unstable always overflowing or not producing foam.
As for the speedy pumps, I don't think the Supermarin 300 comes with them yet.
