Best snail.............

Im looking for a snail that loves hair algea and rock work. I have many astrea snails but they never seem to leave the sides of my tank and go for the plentiful amounts of tasty hair algea that i have growing on my rock work. Any ideas for a snail that would rather stay on the rock.

Ive heard that there good but i dont really like putting bull dozers in my tank. I've had them before and they just seem to knock everything over.

True, but they will fix the problem of the hair algea.

They also force you to rearrange the landscaping once in a while.

A tang would work also, but you can't put one in a nano.

Red banded Trochus snail. If acclimated well they are very hardy, reproduce easily, and great for hair/microalgae. Don't get super huge like Mexican Turbos. Sweet snail...

No... you can google Trochus radiatus and should give you some pics. And I retract my statement about them not getting big (I forgot how big they can get eventually :rolleye1: ), but the beauty is that they reproduce well enough that by the time you need to pull the big ones to trade them in at the lfs, you should have a nice crop of little ones to let grow out!

ya ive seen some big ones, unfortunatly though with trochus snails thay dont really have any means of protection as they dont have a calcerous closing flap like astrea's, lithopomas etc.

my bubblebee snails cruise the rockwork at night. i have no hair algae at all. you never see them during the day but opnce the lights go out they go to work.
