I'm taking a 7 day cruise next week to these destinations. Where do you recommend to take a good snorkeling ? We will be close to Freeport Jamaica but I'm planning on going to Momtego Bay . Thanks

I liked Eden Rock in Grand Cayman. Saw tarpan, rock beauties, cuttlefish, and a ray

In Cozumel snorkeled near Dzul Ha (Zool-ha). reef wasn't too far out.

Caymans is definitely the best bet. The reef in Jamaica is in poor shape in any of the areas you can reach from the cruise ship stops. Cozumel is high current, and while snorkelable, isn't necessarily the best place for snorkeling. Caymans has done an excellent job of protecting their reef, and if you don't do the cruise ship's trip (likely stingray city and therefore not much reef), Eden Rock is only a very short walk east of where the cruise ships drop you off ;) And Roni is quite right about it being a good spot :)

I just got back from the cruise and I did the Eden Rock scuba and Wow, thanks for this suggestions as I seen some nice corals and it was an experience I will never forget.

welcome home .now you have to get your dive certification so you can go back and do all the swim thrus at Devils Grotto.

+1 Georgetown, Grand Caymans
Eden Rocks is a easy shore dive with large tame groupers plus as above. It only a short stroll from the cruise ship docks. I have led groups to all the above destinations. For a new snorkeler, the Caymans have the most professional dive operations with very good safe dive masters. The equipment is more modern, greater selection [fit is important]. Georgetown is on the normal leeward side of the island. If you elect to take a boat dive, you will have a very short trip in calm waters. Currents are not strong. There is more spectacular snorkeling/ diving in the Caribbean but you cannot beat the total package.

Glad you had a good time

Some of that is even right in the Caymans itself ;) If you get SCUBA certified and go back (not via a cruise), the diving on the east end and north wall of Grand Cayman is spectacular. Even better, get over to Caman Brac and Little Cayman. Little Cayman's famous Bloody Bay Wall is a truly spectacular dive. IMO some of the best diving to be had in the Caribbean, especially if like wall dives.

billsreef is on target. One of the best dives of my life was off the Bloody Bay Wall. The east side and the north wall do provide some of the best diving on this planet. Great sea-life too. Weather is more unpredictable and currents can be very strong. Seas are rougher with longer boat rides.

But for average new diver, occasional snorkeler the south side lee provides a more stable experience. Save Little Cayman, the Brac and the north shore for the 2nd trip and after you have a little experience under your weight belt.

Thanks guys , youve been so helpful. Id love to get my certification as i loved my scuba experience. I will work on my certification and hopefully one day i can go check out these treasures . Thanks

I done Jamaica a few times. The reef are dirty & horrible there, fish though are cool. Mostly I've been in tourist spots.
