Best way to plumb Dart for a CL

I'm getting Reeflo Dart pump for the Closed Loop on my 90 Gallon. I know the Dart is a bit much for this application, but I was hoping through all the bends and adaptors and nozzles to add enough head pressure to shave down the GPH to around 2,000.

Will this work? And if so, what's the best way to plumb a dart. I have little experince with hard plumbing or external pumps.

If this won't work, what are my other pump options for a 2,000 GPH CL pump that runs QUIETLY. Don't say Mag, I've owned them before and they are too loud for me. And the Eheims aren't powerful enough. The other pumps by sequence aren't as quiet as the Dart.

Thanks
Josh

Tunze 6080 is 2250gph for around $200. I think it draws about 21 watts. If you are a diy person, you might want to experiment with the Maxijet stream mod.

I use a Tunze turbelle stream pump on my main tank. They are ok. I don't like how much time I spend trying to find the best spot for it.

I thought for my new tank I would try a closed loop with 2 inputs. That way I can have 2000+ gallons but coming from all different directions. Plus I don't like having things in my tanks. I'm kinda done with powerheads.

If you plan on tunning down that pump to 2,000GPH you will have a really loud CL.

Are the holes drilled already for the CL?

If so Id save the 200$ on that pump ditch the CL and do what Greg said.

If you think powerheads are alot of work, good luck with a CL. I took mine out the same month I installed it.

I hate my Tunze I was really hoping to get away from powerheads with this new tank.

So many people claim the Dart is a silent pump. I thought it would serve well.

Am I on crack?

They are silent but u want to cut off 1600gph.

True enough.

So what's a good CL pump for returning 2000 GPH to the display?
I need it to be quiet.

Thanks
Josh

Or I could just let all 3,600 GPH loose on my tank. My SPS would love it, but it wouldn't make the best seahorse/pipefish tank :)

I suppose I could split my CL drain (Y), to the inputs of two Eheim 1262's, and then have each one return direct to each of the 2 CL outputs. The 1262s are quiet, and would equal the same 160W of the Dart. That would essentially give me 1800 GPH via a CL with a shared drain but independent outputs.

Anyone ever try this?

Closed loops are loud... That is why I went to the tunze

So you're not using a CL anymore? I thought you were using a CL?

Much better. Gooliver did the same but its just a single drain/output from an eheim. They are dead silent! You can use flex tube/vynol instead of hard plumbing resulting in a much quiter CL.

I like it!

Well, maybe that's the path then.

Much less plumbing, only one extra cord. It would be really neat and tidy on the backside. Although I can't help but think I should install ball valves just before each output hits the tank in case I ever need to service the pumps. I would hate to drain my tank onto the floor :)

sequence also makes a pump that you dont see for sell to often. its called the reeflo snapper. it would be perfect its rated at about 2500 gph and leas than 100watts. thats what i will be using on my CL for my 75 with an OM SS.

shawn:bum:

Don't be fooled by the charts..I doubt very much anybody out there has a Dart doing close to 3600 gph..If you use a 2" intake, use 1.5" pipe on the output and have no more then 4 feet of head you might come close to this..If you cut the input and drop the output anywhere less then 1.5" you'll cut the flow way down.

Thanks logans_daddy, thanks Mike

"The Snapperâ"žÂ¢ is the quietest pump on the market."

They make the same statement regarding the Dart. So how can there be 2 "quietest pump on the market." , eh?

Liars !!!!

So yeah, the snapper seems to have saved the day.

Anyone have any experience with it yet?

Thanks
Josh
