Best way to transfer from QT to DP

Hi,

I have been wondering this for a while. Normally, I would use a different method than copper. However, for this batch of fish I decided to use copper (and plan to do so for the future).

I use Cupramine. I left the fish in QT for 2 weeks of observation BEFORE dosing copper (to minimize the stress of shipped fish). It has now been 2 weeks since I confirmed the 0.5 mg/L of copper in the QT. It is now time to transfer them to the display tank.

1. What is the best way to do this to minimize the potential for copper to go into the DP? I have cuprisorb, I was considering using that to absorb all the copper prior to transferring them to ensure there is a 0% chance of copper being added to the display tank.
2. Should I use the nets from the DP or the QT tank?
3. Do I acclimate the fish even though the salinity and temp are the same?

I would not transfer them to the DT. Cooper is known to mask other diseases, meaning once out of the cooper they will show their ugly face in your DT. So I would recommend waiting another 3-4 weeks minimum.

That seems excessive. The product does not state this is required. Why would they set you up for anything less than success with their product?

I am still wondering about my other questions though.

Cupramine by itself is not enough. I use Paraguard, PraziPro, and cupramine in that order. I don't mix medication.

Paraguard for bacterial and viral, ParaziPro is for parasites and worms, and cupramine is for external parasites like ich.

After the treatment is completed, I drip acclimate for about an hour or more, then dip the fish in tank water, then to the DT they go. I don't use net. I use a plastic cup and a plastic strainer, depends on the size of the fish. Nets can cause damage to the fish.

The QT period is subjective. Everyone has different level of risk tolerance. I complete the treatments in about 7 weeks or less. If I don't see any signs of disease, I move them to the DT. After all of this medication and stress, if the fish is diseased, the disease would have shown itself.

Using a strainer for moving fish is my recommendation. Take a bucket of DT water and dip the fish from the QT into it and then transfer to the tank. Like black tip recommends.

I move my fish in during water changes.

I wondered about that. when I used colander, some fish will thrash violently against hard surface, as opposed to the soft net.

I always, always keep fish in QT at least a couple of weeks after stopping meds just to make sure what was being treated for doesn't return. Won't seem excessive if you get ich popping up in your display.

I'd run cuprisorb if you have it, or just do a big water change. Never worried much about the tiny amount of copper in a few cups of water. If temp and salinity are the same, then there's nothing to acclimate for is there.
