What are peoples thoughts on the best wrasse for this situation.

180g established mixed reef.
Looking for the best and brightest color possible.
very minimal sand bed, maybe 1 inch in places but alot less for the most part
would like it to pick at sps pests, aefw, red bugs, etc

Please no one say sixline. I am looking for a reef friendly wrasse. My wife likes the green coris wrasse. So lets hear some opinions. I'm going to purchase something asap!

Will also need 2 more wrasse for my barebottom 30g breeder frag tanks.

Melenarus! Looks great, eats flake food, eats bugs, only issue for me is it does a little sand sifting and spits out sand in the water column. Most coral in my tank seem to tolerate this though. It is very peaceful despite being the second largest fish in my tank.

how long have you had the melanurus?

I've got a red sea blue 4-line cleaner wrasse that picks at the LR and corals.

melanarus
but a 6line does eat pest. not sure where the op got his info but they eat flat worms ect as well as keep bristle worm population under control also

Melanarus wrasse- I had a flatworm issue and kept treating with flatworm exit. they kept coming back. Have not seen a flatworm since introducing the melanarus wrasse. Beautiful colors and is always out an about. Eats frozen food as well.

My six line does not create any issues. I like the six line as well.

I've got an Argus wrasse (Halichoeres Argus), and love it. It's very similar in coloring to a Melanarus, but pattern is more like a Christmas wrasse. Excellent pest predator. It stays smaller than many of the others too, so I can keep shrimp, etc., as long as they aren't too small.

my green coris wrasse blue sand all over my corals , fairy , flasher or social wrasse are very cool reef safe too

The coris is going to need deeper sand to sleep in...wouldn't want him to knock himself out diving in LOL.

Maybe a flasher would be better in your situation. I know nothing about fairies.

Love my yellow coris wrasse. Eats pests and has been a model citizen for years.

My Lubbock's fairy wrasse is stunning as well, but he can be a bully to any similar-looking wrasse or anthia.

My Melanurus is always on the hunt and picking at the rocks. No issues with other tank mates including the CUC. I'm not sure about a 1" or less sand bed though, mine shoots straight down into the sand bed when he goes to sleep.
