Better to have a deep tank or wide tank?

I think it comes down to aesthetics. There's other ways of adding oxygen if that's ever a problem.

Personally, I like the deeper tanks, but then I'm tall and don't like to bend over to look in the tank.

Cap, I had a 180g (6'x2'x2') and now I have a 125g (5'x2'x20") and I like the shallower tank much better.

Have you ever built a tank before? Are you putting anything besides wet silicone between the panels? Are you setting the side glass on top of the bottom glass or on the outside of the bottom glass? Are you using a frame or euro bracing or just thick enough glass to go rimless?

I've built 5 tanks over the last 4 years and doing one that big still scares me. I'm just finishing a 2'x2'x20" 50g tank and in the past I've done 3 for me and 2 for friends. I have an old 180g that leaked and I'm planing to tear it apart, clean it up and reassemble it with a euro brace.

I've never built a full tank before. For sealant between the panes it will be black RTV 308 (I think that's the one). Side panes will be on the outside as to make sure the bottom is not supporting the full weight.

As for bracing I will probably have a custom euro brace made, or it will be rimless. It will depend on the cost difference between a thicker glass and the extra pane for the euro brace. Ideally I want to go rimless.

As for width and depth I personally prefer wider. I currently have a 67g 24" deep and my stand is 30" high. I need a step stool to do anything in my tank.

I'm still in the planning stage of it and won't begin build until next year but just putting some feelers and ideas out there.

I will also be building it up against my furnace room wall so I'm not limited to space in the stand for sump and equipment. I will have a 15'x15' room [emoji51][emoji51][emoji51]

Wide, nothing over 24" high or you will have a very hard time getting down to the bottom much less the back. At 24" and 6'4", I have a hard time getting to the back of my tank by the time hoods, rock, etc are all in. Plus the extra width gives those fish that need more swimming room the room they need to do so.
