bicolor blenny - reef safe?

Any one have one in their tank and doesn't bother any corals or clams? I want to get one but based on my researh, it could be a problem. Thanks!

Mine doesn't cause any problems. Only thing he does is grabs the smaller nass snails and shakes them but they survive.

I had a bicolor blenny for years without a problem. One day, I noticed my clam wasn't opening. Witnessed the blenny nip it several times in the 10 minutes I sat down to observe. I moved the clam to the 'fuge where it recovered, and coincidentally the blenny ended up dead in the overflow. Now I have a tailspot...and so far, nothing. I think it's a 50/50 chance, and you have to be prepared to move one or the other. Good luck.

99% of reefkeepers will say their Bicolor Blenny is "reef safe" but (in fact) most are secretive nippers of clams and corals.
IMO you might as well get an Angelfish instead of this Blenny.

I had one and it started nipping at all my clams and some corals. He had to go..

Too late to your advise. I got one home and was thinking how bad a small fish can do. I was wrong. Once I put him in the tank, he started to nip the digi and the digi lost few spots of poly. I have to catch him tonight and send him back to LFS. :mad2:

i loved my bicolor but i had some issues in my tank and lost him i was so sad they are cute how the poke out of holes and only thing he nipped at was algae

I've had a few over the years with no problems. Mine only nipped at algae.

Guess its kind of like six line wrasses, most all I have kept have been fine, but one was a total killer and murdered 4 fish before I could catch him.

Since there are so many successful stories, I guess I just got a bad guy. I can't catch him as he has been hiding all the time. I will keep my eyes on him, if he does further damage, I will tear down my tank to catch him without hesitation.

bicolor blenny - reef safe?

Mine is attacking my orange and purple montipora digitata, but he leaves the soft corals alone. Wife loves it and won't let me get rid of it..
Any Advice?? Just accept the loss of the digitatas? grow a pair?

+1 This was my experience with two different fish. Sneaky little nippers.

Mine never touch any of my corals. It even perch it head on top of the clam. Darn thing doesn't seemed to mind it at all. I have a mixed reef sps lps, he's been in there for two years now and never bother any thing...

I had one in my fowlr. Only annoying thing about him was it was the most SKITTISH SW fish I've had. Stupid lil guy is afraid of any human movement near the tank. ALways hides in his holes. ****ed me off.

+2... I just searched the RC Forum for info on bicolor blennies because I saw him viciously attack a new SPS frag I had just placed in my tank. While I was arranging my new fragments, this little bulldog was also brave enough to attack my forearm; about wet my pants :-). Now I'm noticing another acropora colony is getting a lot of bite marks & scarring.

I had 3 bicolor blennies and all would attack acropora, usually the smooth underside of the staghorns, but also encrusted growth and everything else.
These guys are just bad news with acropora.
Better get an angel. My Regal Angels leave the SPS alone and even don't do much damage to LPS or even zoa's
